OMG Pastor Ted staked out gay bars! too funny...
He was always on the lookout for spies. At the time, Colorado Springs was a small city split between the Air Force and the New Age, and the latter, Pastor Ted believed, worked for the devil. Pastor Ted soon began upsetting the devil's plans. He staked out gay bars, inviting men to come to his church; his whole congregation pitched itself into invisible battles with demonic forces, sometimes in front of public buildings.

1. Several years ago, I wrote a letter to the editor of the Gazette...
And I thought it was one of my better ones. At that time, I was known around much of the Springs for my biting barbs. :) But I had written about pastor Haggard and a friend standing on the corner of Academy Blvd spraying cars with "holy water" as they passed by. So he and his buddy decided to spray a little of their olive oil on a business place on the west side of town and slipped into the area at night to perform their ritual. Unfortunately, they set off the fire alarm. They ran and hid in the bushes. I wondered, in my letter to the Gazette, what would have happened if a serpent had crawled upon them while they were hiding in the bushes? I wondered if they would have had the faith to pick up that serpent as it speaks of in the Bible or would they have jumped up and down speaking in tongues trying to escape? They did not print the letter.

9. Haggard also thought there were witches in Colorado Springs, they moved
He moved the church to a strip mall. There was a bar, a liquor store, New Life Church, a massage parlor. His congregation spilled out and blocked the other businesses. He set up chairs in the alley. He strung up a banner: SIEGE THIS CITY FOR ME, signed JESUS. He assigned everyone in the church names from the phone book they were to pray for. He sent teams to pray in front of the homes of supposed witches—in one month, ten out of fifteen of his targets put their houses on the market. His congregation “prayer-walked” nearly every street of the city.

6. Christian Fundamentalism at the Air Force Academy.
This has been in the news quite a bit lately.
Do you think it's a result of this guy's 'crusade'?
This scares the shit out of me.
It sure ain't the hard-drinkin', hard-chargin' Air Force I was part of.

Mega-church

Colorado's largest evangelical mega-church, the New Life Church, sits on a hill just a few kilometres away, looking down onto the academy grounds. Its pastor is Ted Haggard, president of the 30-million-member National Association of Evangelicals.

He boasts his own huge congregation of 11,000.

"Liberal movements in America treat people like they're stupid," said the man whose national prominence means that he talks to President George W Bush most weeks.
