1. The Candidate was on before that, I was amazing we are still talking about many of the same issues
Environment, economy, abortion, poverty and health care.
The republican Senator was a perfect match for todays Congress, they haven't changed

2. True. Some of the lines in the movie are true today, especially
when Bob and Carl are talking to the woman in her apartment and she says that the constitution is at risk, etc.

3. I watched "The Candidate" for the first time...
and I agree with what you said about the same issues being so relevant. Isn't it kind of sad?

But I have to say it was one of the best movies that I have seen in a long time for political reasons along with the not so in your face way of showing me the story. It was nice.

4. Redford was in on Watergate story from the beginning.
While making "Candidate" the D.C. pols working on
the movie showed Redford the stories running every day about
the break-in. Interested he phoned Woodward and they became
friends. Redford followed the story to the end.

Much later, when Woodward and Bernstein were writing the book,
it was Redford who told them to change the perspective from
just telling the story of what happened in the White House
(which with Nixon's resignation was already "old
news") to turning the book into the story of two young,
hungry reporters trying to FIND OUT what was happening in the
White House. It made all the difference, and, as they say, the
rest is history.
