The baptists swayed me on the alcohol vote
The county will vote tomorrow to allow or not allow alcohol sales. Proponents want restaurants to build in the county, without alcohol sales they won't. I opposed the proposal solely on increased traffic concerns. However this past Sunday's paper was chock full of ads by those who are far more morally superior than you or me. Their bottom line, people who drink alcohol are evil sodomites who will get drunk and kill all the children. Being the intellectually curious guy I started analyzing. They would rather I drive 35 miles one way, get drunk, pay sales tax in another county or state then drive drunk 35 miles home, instead of an 8 or 9 mile round trip into town. (Whenever we go out socializing anywhere either my wife or I do not drink.)

I'll be voting to allow alcohol sales tomorrow; although I think the proposals chances of passing are slim.

Those zealots sure are convincing.

1. The morality police
never want to stop themselves from doing what they believe is wrong. It's always for YOUR good.

4. When I was in high school in 67 in eastern North Carolina
the local saying was "they would vote the county dry as long as they could stagger to the polls". The Fundies loved their moonshine...

5. That's what made the VFW the Legion so big where I lived.
Until they changed that law. Those captive audiences were good for them.

6. Don't you just love livin' in the Bible Belt????
Baptists (and other evangelicals) NEED to let their hair down and have SOME REAL fun; there's nothing like putting small business owners, the restaurateurs and tavern owners, out of business.

of the bars after they passed a law that allowed beer bars. They would come in and go through the bar looking for any one that might appear intoxicated and arrest them for Public intoxication inside the bar! How long do you think they stayed open?

edit: similar story:

IRVING, Texas -- Irving police have taken their fight against drunken driving to a new level. Irving officers and state agents targeted 36 bars and clubs Friday and arrested some allegedly intoxicated patrons before they departed the businesses. The officers also kept watch on bartenders who might have over-served patrons. Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission agents arrested 30 people Friday night. Most of the suspects now face charges of public intoxication.

The agents and Irving police officers traveled from bar to bar and worked undercover, according to an NBC 5 report. The report also said that some agents shared tables with suspected drunken patrons. Some patrons were subjected to field sobriety tests inside bars. Agents and officers said the operation represented an effort to reduce drunken driving. Sgt. Chris Hamilton, of the TABC, said some inebriated bar patrons "end up killing themselves or someone else" after departing the businesses.
