Illegal Aliens and Social Security

OK, I can't keep up with all that's happening, but I have been getting messages about this from a RW acquaintance and would like to have a riposte.

I presume this bill allows "illegal aliens" who register to pay into the system and then later get some benefits. The spin in the messages is that they get benefits because they are illegals and of course those evil DEMs voted to give them the dough.

Can I get a succinct summary of the facts from some kind and well informed soul?

1. What bill are you talking about? As it is, undocumented workers

pay into Social Security and can never collect a dime from it.

2. Bill only allows aliens to claim their earned SS after they become legal

The bill allows illegals who become legal and get a legit SS number to be able to provide their past W2 forms proving that they paid into SS on a earlier wrong number and get SS credit for those incorrectly credited wages.

Soc Sec Admin keeps records (suspense file) of earnings illegals have paid into wrong Social Security numbers that belong to someone else. Gov matches numbers to names and removes the SS credit from the number holder if name doesn't match and puts the credits in limbo. There are billions of unclaimed SS earnings credits currently on the books.

Under the bill, only legal aliens can get Social Security benefits and the benefits are based on their verified contributions into the system. There is no freebie giveaway involved but it does allow crediting the alien with contributions they made into SS when they were illegally using a fraudulently acquired number if they prove they paid in on wrong number. I would bet that very few aliens will ever actually claim these credits.

5. MOST pay in with TAX ID numbers

with the form W-7 that is written in Spanish and "illegals" can go right into the IRS and simply fill out with their real information. The IRS happily takes it. Issues them a TAX ID card and this is what is presented to employers. The IRS knows they are here and takes the money. In essence they governmnet knows they are here and this is a legal form of documentation.
