Interesting GOTV call from a Repub
Just got a call from a local Repub who admitted (with a bit of a laugh in his voice) that it was a GOTV call. When I picked up, I didn't know it was a Repub. Then, after we both laughed and I said that I was definitely going to vote, he said, "And I hope you'll support the local Republican candidates".

I explained (since he seemed nice enough) that I was going to be voting a straight Dem ticket because I thought that, no offense to him, his party was taking the country in the completely wrong direction. Much to my surprise, he agreed with me and admitted that he, too, would be voting "D" on the national level, although he's supporting local "R"s.

Thought it was very interesting that even the folks who, apparently, are staffing the GOTV phone banks for the Repubs are more concerned with local races than with the national ones. Makes me think (hope?) that some significant portion of this is going to be ours.

2. Not sure it was sympathy, more comisseration
Seriously - I got the impression that he really is planning on voting for Menendez and, if he's in my district, Stender. It's the county and local races that are much more competitive where there's a much bigger entrenchment of Rs.

4. Sounds like pandering to me to get you to consider Republicans in the
local races that you might not feel as strongly about. It is part of the training. The Democrats do it also. Don't argue with the voter. Agree with them as much as possible if there is a chance to get them to give the party some votes. Sorry, that may be cynical but that is how I see it.
