Jim Webb surges 8 points ahead of Allen
Democrat Jim Webb has surged ahead of Republican George Allen in the last poll of the campaign, conducted for News-7 by SurveyUSA.

The survey shows Webb with 52% of the likely voters, with 44% going to Allen.

In five previous SurveyUSA tracking polls, the race was a virtual tie with Allen slightly ahead. Other late polls show the race much closer. A Mason-Dixon poll released over the weekend had Webb ahead by a point, and a Gallup poll released today has Allen up by three.

The SurveyUSA poll also shows 42% support for the Marriage Amendment, but with 22% still uncertain over how they'll vote. Thirty-six percent say they'll vote against it.

SurveyUSA interviewed 1,000 Virginia adults from November 3 through November 5. Of them, 840 were registered to vote. Of them, 741 were judged to be "likely" voters. Survey details reflect Likely Voters.

14. NoVA will have higher turnout than the rest of the state.
It is high income and high education. It's so well educated that it pulls the entire state's averages in educational standards into the top tier. High income + high education = high turnout.

6. Bloggers!
You know, those shrill, far left moonbats who want to give the terrorists therapy. How else could you explain their support for a soft-on-terror über-liberal like Jim Webb?

29. The gays too. Don't forget the gays.
They went after Allen as part of their homosocialist plot to destroy the family, don't you know.

5. SurveyUSA is one of the more reliable polls, if I remember right.
I very much want Webb to win. Virginia doesn't deserve to be represented by a bully like Felix Allen.

13. I had heard Northern Virgina
is very strong Democrat & likely will go heavily for Webb..It's the other areas of VA. that make the race closer...

Also saw a recent poll taken by the Columbus News Dispatch for the Ohio Senate race & it had Sherrod Brown up in double digits!....This can all be found on www.electoral-vote.com

But more people are for this marriage amendment outlawing gay marriage! I knew this state is insane and still too southern! Please don't hop on my case for that comment -- I'm southern born and raised and my mother and I have stopped speaking for months over this issue.

At least Charlottesville's City Council is voting tonight to oppose the marriage amendment. There are some pockets of sanity in this state.

28. Keep your heads on

I feel good about Webb here in Virginia too, but I also felt good about Kerry in 2004...don't under-estimate the power of the racist element in this state...I bet some people are saying they are voting Webb and then pulling the lever for Felix...

Don't underestimate...a friend of mine's father yesterday got on the phone after heading to the store and it appeared some black people were in the street as he was driving home...and here is his quote

-it's like a zoo here...I AM A TRUE CONSERVATIVE and the damn ni**ers are everywhere----He knows I am Liberal, but decided to make his case anyway. After he said that I replied, "Oh wow...I trust you'll be voting for George Allen tomorrow."

His response: "Damn Right".

This is what we're up against...at least this guy was honest enough to admidt he was a racist, but many in this state aren't and they'll vote that way.

30. I wonder if even that crypto-racist element could balance out the
aversion to voting for someone who so patently has his foot stuck in his mouth, almost all the time, and votes in concordance. Some of those crypto-R's might incline to pull the lever for Allen-- OTOH, to do so, they'd have to gaze at themselves in the mirror afterward and say, "I just voted for a certifiable idiot-- does that make an idiot, too?" Methinks basic self-esteem might balance out the crypto-R element somewhat.
