Poll question: What are YOU going to do for Democrats over the next 24 hours? |
|
Other than voting, what are YOU going to do for Democrats over the next 24 hours?
Phone calls? Canvasing? Blogging? Helping people get to the polls? Poll watcher?

1. Right now I'm waiting for a phone call for this afternoon's assigment. |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 01:14 PM by ocelot
Probably canvassing. If I didn't have to work tomorrow I'd do poll-watching like in '04. While I'm waiting I'm making a few last-minute on-line donations. If you don't have time to volunteer and you have a few bucks to spend, at least send money. It isn't too late for that.

2. hand out "cheat sheets" |
|
I've printed up some cheat sheets for my area and am offering them to coworkers and friends who I know share my values and beliefs. I've found that sometimes people don't vote because they don't know who all the judges and minor offices are, or don't know enough about the referenda. It can kinda intimidate them, so a cheat sheet can be really helpful.

17. The law may be different in Texas, but in AZ |
|
there is a 75 ft limit from the entrance of the polling place that restricts anyone who is not voting, i.e., petition circulators, campaign workers, candidates, news media, etc.

22. In Georgia its 25 ft for exit polls, etc. 150 ft for campaigners. |
|
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 01:57 PM by lonehalf
Media can come into the polls but the only thing they can ask poll workers is how many has voted there.
They have to be 25 feet from the door to talk to voters.

28. Oops, just one little correction, babylonsister... |
|
I just got back from setting up for the election and while I was there discovered that there ARE some poll watchers who are allowed inside the polling station. I was too busy with my paperwork to get the details, so I don't know what steps you need to go through to become one of those poll watchers. I do know there's a form that needs to be filled out (of course :)).

5. I was the pretend troll who clicked Nothing |
|
in the interest of an honest answer.
However for early voting last week I picked up my ancient neighbors at their request (96 & 98 years old) to take them down to the sub-courthouse to vote. Plus I voted instead of just typing about it, but it was hard this time.
The early polls closed at 5:00 each day last week and SO and I have a combined 130 mile daily commute, and very long workdays.
Oh plus, about 3 or 4000 posts on the topic.

I have to work today, an appointment this eventing and have to kick on a new project tomorrow. I was signed up to watch the polls on Election Day but my manager nixed my moving the project kick off to another day.

8. Our polling precinct... |
|
was just broken up, putting a new polling station at the retirement home at the end of development ... So, everyone in our precinct has to drive up our lone entrance and main drag to get to our poling place ...
I put signs up twice at the front of the development at the main road, but they were stolen both times ... I held back enough to put a load of them up election day in case ... I have five or more signs for Rendall, Casey and all our local candidates, and I will put them up at 7 tommorrow morning, at the front and at the poling site ... At this point, no repuke signs are up, either ...
I previously had done GOTV calls and canvasing/lit drops in our and the adjoining development ... I would work tomorrow, but had an unavoidable work trip taking me out of town at noon ...

I was surprised to get the call..but readily agreed. I'm trying to take tomorrow off in order to devote more time to the cause. I've never done it before..but I'll do my best!

20. Not as many hard-core bloggers as you'd think on DU. |
|
Unless you count "posting on DU" as blogging, there aren't that many bloggers (proportionaly) as DU as there are on Kos or TPM Cafe.
I suppose I could have voted "blogging" since I'll be live-blogging from a gathering in Asheville tomorrow night.

21. Also.... drive people to the polls tomorrow! |
|
Especially in places where the weather is inclement or if there is an old-folks' facility nearby, you might want to call your local headquarters or the old-folks' facility and see if there are voters there who need a lift to the polls. That just takes a few hours of your time, and is an enormous help for those who might not be able to get to the polls, otherwise.
