At least 70% of all evangelical preachers hire male prostitutes
That's "what I heard." Or I "read that somewhere." I'm practicing being a "conservative." Ironically any evangelical preachers who are perusing our sight are probably crapping their pants after reading that subject line. After all, they would know its true. Just ask any you know. What are they going to do? Lie to you? Lets see how they like the broadbrush.

Can our country survive any more "conservative values?"

9. As a former pastor and fundamentalist I have to say that you are wrong
The number is probably higher.

I was a Southern Baptist and each year they have an annual meeting (this year's is in San Antonio). It has to be held at in a large metropolitan area because of the number of "messengers" who attend.

Hotels in which all these messengers stay report higher than normal in-room viewing of porn; call girls and escort services also see an uptick in their business.

Pastors get pussy thrown at them all the time. Pastors who are on the "circuit", preaching at different cities and churches every Sunday, have "groupies" who will quietly service the weary minister.

If lay people ever really understood what was going on, they'd flee the church.

16. Evangelical Christianity encourages homosexual behavior
Edited on Mon Nov-06-06 02:13 PM by IanDB1
They say that homosexuality is a "choice," and that they can "pray away the gay" if you seek forgiveness.

Therefore, they're saying, "Go ahead and try being gay for a while. Enjoy it. Have some Crystal Meth. And then, whenever you feel like it, come on back to the church, and we'll "cure" you and "forgive" you (don't forget your 10% tithe.)

Wow!

How liberating!

You can make the choice to be gay for a while, have a blast, and then repent-- until the next time.

If homosexuality can be cured, then won't that just encourage people to go out and try being gay?

I mean, the same people who don't want a vaccination against cervical cancer because it would "encourage promiscuity," are also saying that they can cure gayness-- then won't everyone want to try being gay?

Just hit a pillow with a tennis racket while yelling "Mommy! Mommy!" and you're CURED!

Evangelical Fundies say: "Go ahead and be gay for a while. We can cure you when you're tired of it."

I'm not cuffing about your Dad, but there exists a clear definition of hypocrisy. You may not want to take any recommendation from me but maybe you should ask him about Haggard's behavior and how such activity really hurts the goals of those who make a living getting tax exempt funds.

25. "Make a living getting tax exempt funds?"
That's it. I've been a good sport up until now, but that's it.

Thanks to televangelists, ALL PREACHERS are considered self-employed and get double-taxed. Many, if not most preachers, hold two jobs because the church doesn't, or can't, pay them enough. My dad became a Christian when I was 9, pastored his first church when I was 11, and during that time I worked and took care of my little sister, and both of my parents had two jobs to make ends meet.

So don't throw me some bullshit about preachers' "hypocrisy" or their "goals to make a living getting tax-exempt funds." Sure, Haggard was a rich hypocrite. But DUers who want to apply this to everyone and use it to attack peoples' faith are ignorant.

If you're in that camp, so are you.

27. You mean like
evangelists who want to paint groups of citizens with a broad brush because of what they read in the old testament which leads them to hate in the name of Jesus Christ? Interesting that one gets testy about the same tactic used on their loved ones. If the christian evangelical community were more Jesus like there would be no need for digging posts like mine. Meanwhile the non-Jesus like hate for homosexuals continues in the form of state amendments, where "christians" want to use constitutions as weapons against segments of our society. And no doubt in rational humans minds, as we hunt and peck on the computer some evangelical minister is coupled with a prostitute. Gosh broad brushes can be so nasty huh? I wonder where I learned how to use them?

30. Thanks very much for the welcome
but I've been here for more then four years. And thanks for clearing things up for me. Evangelicals aren't fundamentalists aren't conservatives, aren't neocons, aren't republicans. But they all hate in the name of Jesus Christ, sincerely or not. Many do it just to get votes, others do it because they spend alot of time in Leviticus.

35. "They all hate in the name of Jesus Christ"
Again, this is incorrect. I understand that your original intent was to broadbrush, and you're doing a good job of it...but I don't blame you, and I'm sorry for my angry overreaction earlier. The truth is, except maybe on Keith Olbermann's show, you will not see a single evangelical on TV who isn't Falwell or Robertson, and that's not your fault.

Since your condemnation of evangelicals seems to be based on the topic of homosexuality alone, I'd like to direct you to some websites that show that we're not all the gay-bashing, puppy eating demons that you imagine.

38. Please let me try this
My religious book says every Dob Bole, who comprise at least 10 percent of the population, is an abomination. And because I "believe" that I will work to amend the constitution (which has nothing to do with my religious book) so that all Dob Boles can not get married. They also can not serve openly as Dob Boles in our military. However, I must insist that all Dob Boles continue paying taxes and obeying all other relevant laws of the land. However, if, in my private moments, I choose to behave as Dob Boles do, well thats my business.

If a group felt so strongly about me that they would put so much time and effort and money to use our constitution as a weapon against me I would consider that they hated me. As a veteran, I consider the constitution for what it is, a shield for all citizens.

We are living in the land of the free, not the land of focus on the family or any other religious group.

No need to be sorry for any of your conversation DB. I find our chit chat fruitful (no pun implied or intended.)

39. But maybe your religious book doesn't actually SAY that Dob Boles are an abomination...
Maybe it has been recently mistranslated to say so. Maybe your religious book, in its original languages and context, is saying that when Dob Boles rape their slave boys, it is an abomination. This is very different from when a Dob Bole loves another Dob Bole, or when two Dob Boles marry each other. Your religious book is actually an empty closet, with no mention of Dob Bole relationships whatsoever.

Yes, fundamentalists who believe that your religious book was written in English will want to ban hot Dob Bole-on-Dob Bole love, just like they did interracial relationships. But among Dob Bolevangelicals, there is a left-right divide, just as with any other religous or demographic group in society.

Do not post messages that are bigoted against (or grossly insensitive toward) any person or group of people based on their race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, lack of religion, disability, physical characteristics, or region of residence.
