the myth of GOP "confidence" (talk is cheap)
which party is more confident of its appeal to voters this fall?

see Bush desperately campaigning in places like Georgia and Texas, frantically trying to boost morale. they are scrambling to plug the levees before the Democratic flood washes in.

see the NRCC, RNC, and NRSC spending big $$$$ DEFENDING GOP-held districts.

see the http://www.mydd.com/story/2006/11/6/161914/422">grumbling amongst Republicans in Congress about GOP leadership

see how the Independents are leaning this year vs. in 2004, 2002, and 2000--there is a big wave building to end corrupt one-party rule and throw out the GOP bums.
http://www.mydd.com/story/2006/10/30/71417/418

see which party is confident enough in their internal polls to release them to the media.

count the races where Democratic candidates lead by more than the MOE. then http://www.mydd.com/story/2006/10/25/13291/514">count every race where the Democratic candidate is 8 points ahead as a win, and 9/10 of the races where the Democratic candidate is 3 points ahead.

see which party is desperately trying to come up with exciting issues... and deciding that a joke in John Kerry's stump speech is their best bet.
