If we don't win, don't freak out
Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 03:45 AM by gordontron
No this is not another thread predicting doom and gloom tomorrow, but I just want to remind everyone that even if we don't win both houses of congress we still will have made progress. I hate to say it, but I think our hopes are too high at the moment. Make no mistake this election will be a slap across the face to Bush, but our election system is so broken that America won't be truly able to express it's discontent. In the last midterm election there was a 98% incumbency rate, which is utterly ridiculous. With redistricting and big money it is hard to run a real democratic republic these days, but we still need to try.

So tomorrow:

+go vote
+get others to vote
+watch for signs of fraud,
+but don't reach for the cyanide if it isn't a landslide

good luck everyone

(hope the editing made the message clearer) (other edit: I had to put back in "don't freak out" otherwise responses wouldn't make sense)

1. like, hell
if the Republicans do re-seize control of Congress, I will officially freak-out, scream and yell, and cuss until I go hoarse. The way the polls are showing it, the only way they can win is by massive cheating, in which case, all Americans with integrity should get on the streets and massively protest.

2. yes I was implying a landslide in both houses
not winning the house would be cause for great alarm indeed, but the senate races are still very close.

4. If we don't win the HOR, there's going to be problems
problems that the term "freaking out" doesn't even begin to describe. God help us all if it comes to that.

3. There's A Fine Line Between Winning & Losing...
But there is an INFINITE amount of difference.

Unfortunately, unless we pick up 25+ seats in the House, and at least 5 in the Senate, this will be a loss. Since we're coming from so far behind in terms of our shortfalls in each house, I'm not sure we can hope for much more, aside from actually winning control in the Senate also.

I'm still very, very afraid, and I almost feel as if anything short of total victory, will allow these EVIL leaders to maintain their authority and control, leaving this country the worse for it.

WE MUST WIN!!!

22. Show me the difference by their voting records of the last six years
Bush* has gotten every single thing he has asked for with the aid of Democrats in all cases.

6. Don't expect to take both houses
I think it's fair to say that the Dems will get the House and pick up 4-6 Senate seats, most likely 4 or 5. So, don't go nuts if we don't get the Senate. :)

13. Time to take it out on the REPORTERS, BIG TIME
if we don't win both, because if they would have reported on all the corruption in the Republican party, or if they would have just spent as much time on the Repub corruption as they did on the Kerry "botched joke" this ellection is ours. No doubt about it, if not GO AFTER THE REPORTERS for playing their stupid fucking games.

25. What do you mean by "go after them"?
they get paid by ultra-right-wing billionaires, who censor everything they write. How do we go after them?

I hear ya OP, but it's very late in the day for reason and moderation. Look where it has taken us.

9. It will be a slap alright.
Especially if they win. Just remember the slap in 2004 and when Bush said "I earned capital in this campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it,"

14. Oh, I don't know.
A properly timed "controlled" freak-out with sustained commitment has in the past proven effective for forcing the necessary discourse when all else fails.

if something smells rotten we need to raise hell, but that's different than crying bloody murder if we don't win the senate.

21. If the House doesn't go Dem at least...
Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 06:53 AM by Birthmark
...I reserve the right to freak out. In fact, I'm afraid I'll insist on it. It will be justified. This time I'm not listening to any crap about "ballot initiatives, inaccurate polling, undecideds, Christians" or anything other excuse. I've looked at the numbers closely enough to know that the ONLY way that the Repubs can hold the House is through fraud and trickery.

So if the House doesn't go our way, I'm going to freak out. Big time. What's more, I hope that millions of decent Americans, not just Dems, join me in freaking out.

23. Don't freak out -- lock and load.
If we do not win the House, or if Blackwell "wins" Ohio, it's time for a nationwide "Battle of Athens (TN)". Google that to see what it might just take to save our democracy.

26. Screw that
Every single poll and every single political pundit says we're going to win and win big. If we don't win, it's because Rove and Diebold STOLE it AGAIN. I'll damn well freak out if that happens. We need a total civil war if this happens again.
