Certainly a lot better than Speaker Hastert.

I'm always amazed how Hastert manages to fit into the chair behind the table at the State of the Union addresses.

5. Not as good as it could be
Not after she abdicated her responsibilty as a US Rep by saying that she would never ever ever ever ever impeach Bush. On that topic she is the equal of the slavish stamps in there now.

I hope she wins her district in California, but I'd rather have somebody else. The current Speaker is not doing his Constitutional duties as it is, and look where we are now.

6. i really don't see what attempting to impeach bush would do
Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 04:37 AM by AntiWarPoster
it may not even pass the House, and it would definitely not muster 67 votes of Senators, even if we re-take the Senate.

at least pelosi voted against the war. I have a feeling that less than 50 House Dems would vote to impeach Bush.

7. Oh, give him a few more months.
He isn't going to take this well.

With any luck, he'll piss off everyone so much there isn't even a question about impeachment.

9. even if the house passes it,
i can't see 16 republican senators voting to remove him from office. assuming democrats have 51 seats and republican 49, we'd need to have all 51 democrats vote to remove him and have 16 republicans cross the aisle as well.

12. What else will BushCo do in the next 2 years?
I can't answer that. Neither can you, and, more to the point, neither can Pelosi.

Aside from simply punishing this arrogent idiot as an example for ALL FUTURE PRESIDENTS OF THIS COUNTRY that our Constitution, our laws, our top-secret undercover agents, and our military are to be respected, not used and abused and discarded, without punishment...

I have no clue what the legacy-obsessed man in the Oval Office will do between now and January 2009. Will he invade another country and use it as an excuse to not leave office? Will he take advantage of his new martial law powers to crush protest marches? Unions?

He is maniacally sure of the "unitary executive" theory, and uses signing statements as a non-overrideable line-item veto. What will he do with it next?

A law takes effect in a couple of months that states an American citizen now needs PERMISSION from the DHS before entering or leaving the US by any means, including driving to Canada. To what ominous end does this serve, considering it is something that countries like the USSR and North Korea do?

I'm not saying start impeachement the day after the new Congress moves in, but there are going to be investigations that will reveal god-knows-what about who-can-guess. And since what, if anything, will be revealed will almost certainly be very very bad, illegal, unconstitutional, and possibly treasonous, the public opinion might well swing strongly towards a nice prison sentence for Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, Gonzelez, Rice, et. al. And prison sentences start with impeachment.

13. jack cafferty put her down yesterday afternoon - he and leslie wolfman were talking about how the
u.s.a. would again have a system of "checks and balances" the cornerstone of democracy if democrats won any one of the two houses of congress ... wolfman said something about the house of representatives looked like it was going to go democrat and that would at least give the u.s.a government some form of checks--and--balance since the republicans wouldn't be able to "just pick up the phone and call fritz or hastert to ram anything it wants through congess which is what happens now" said Jack Cafferty. Wolf added Pelosi would become Speaker of the House, and Jack Cafferty said, "o, well there's a downside to everything."
