Poll question: If the Democrats take control of the house or senate, will they fix the election nightmare?
I voted today, but have no confidence that it was counted right or even recorded.

Since there is no auditable paper trail, would you bank a at a bank that never sent you a statement?

And we are to have :FAITH: that everything works?

Is this America?

2. If they win, won't they be hard pressed to come up with an argument?
After all, if it was rigged in 2000 and 2004, and we lost, did the powers-that-be suddenly decide to rig them in our favor for some reason?

Now, I'm not trying to play stupid, but the argument won't play out so well in the court of public opinion. Unless something concrete comes up - and I mean VERY concrete - nothing will happen.

3. This poll is bogus.
If you don't have faith in the Democrats to fix it, why even bother voting?

7. because the Dems are the ones that have been screwed in 2000 and 04.

if they just sit there and do nothing when or if they win a majority, what does that say about the whole issue or thier real priorities as a party?

That they are, as another said, a gaggle of fools?

10. you say its 'faith' to vote for Dems to fix it, so why bother.

I said that the Democratic candidates need to fix it(or at least work hard and try).

As I said, the current machine do not have an audit trail, we are expected to have 'faith' that they work. I do not have 'faith' that the democratic canidates will fix it, but the expectation that they will. If they do not, in the next 2 years try to resolve the mess the election are in, it will expose them as no better then the GOP, or as a gaggle of fools.

11. I apologize, for not being clear.
I was speaking to the people that voted "No, they will just hold public hearings and nothing will happen." If I felt that way I would not have bothered to vote.

15. I see your point, one vote for Dems anyway, could have other issues more important than this too.

I suppose the 'no' could also be that this issue will take a back seat to what is percieved as the more important issues and forgotten. That could happen too, and there are a lot of other issues, Iraq, economy, jobs, social security, the debt....

4. Winning today means nothing
if the Dems and others don't realise they/we will STILL be in the fight of our lives to save this nation from going down alltogether.

Pelosi's public relations announcements are all well and good but if the Dems think that gaining the House, and even gaining the Senate as well, will stop the faux-fascists they are just as big a gaggle of fools as the GOPukes label them.

The fight for 2008 is already on, and the GOPukes are fully engaged in it, while we pat ourselves on the backs for gaining a thin beachead in one of the three branches of government. Now all can return to business as usual, and all will be right with the world.

No way. There are still two more years remaining to the Bush nightmare, the Hannitys and Limbaughs are still in full voice, the Xtian Right will continue to support the current gang of thugs, and all that will have changed is that there will be more Democratic spokespeople for the press to ignore and dismiss out of hand.

If you want my suggestion--not that anybody does--the very first thing the Democratic majority in the House should do is open hearings on voter suppression, on the one hand, and on the corporate ownership of media outlets on tht other. Let us see a return to the "Fairness" doctrine and, while we can't put Rush and co out of business, let us make sure that the people who hold licenses to broadcast over our airwaves provide a balance to their bile.

And keep the grassroots alive and growing, both on the net and on the ground. All we have is our numbers, in the long run, and if the Dems focus their mindset on how things seem inside the Beltway, we will undoubtedly lose what we have won when 2008 rolls around.

Today marks the LAST CHANCE for America to save itself. It is as simple and stark as that.

14. They may try
Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 10:50 AM by depakid
But Bush would veto it.

Still, just getting the message out would be extremely helpful to them in 2008.
