I cannot BELIEVE what I am seeing in the US |
|
Automated phone calls that tell blatant untruths, people who have not been trained to manage the electronic voting machines, High School students as attendants/helpers at polling stations, mysterious power outages, illegal challenges as to voters' ID's, calls for Gopers to make spoof calls to a Dem help line to jam it up and a whole load of other shitty things.
If what I have just described was happening in a fledgling democracy I could get my head around it in seconds. But in the US of A??? You guys actually need to put your own, ad hoc systems in place to prevent anticipated trickery??? This is Kafkaesque.
Something is really, really...like REALLY wrong in the US.

1. We have always had dirty elections. |
|
This is really nothing special, except maybe for the new element of using computers to mung things up.

2. Hi, McKenzie, long time, no see. |
|
It's pathetic, isn't it. My one true hope is that so many people are now aware of all the potential problems, and so many are being reported, that something will have to be done to fix this.

7. Hello there - maybe I'm being a tad naive (spelling) |
|
maybe the buggers HAVE always been there - it's just that they are now coming into the open.

8. Yes, we had major problems 2 years ago, but no one wanted to |
|
talk about them. Anyone who did bring the topic up was pooh-poohed and called crazy. Not so crazy this year, so that gives me some optimism. It's obvious to most now that the system is broken and needs fixing.

9. That's not true - apparently I didn't vote properly this morning |
|
and learned of it from colleagues.
I'm sick in the stomach over my vote this morning. Pushing 40 at the speed of light and I still can't follow directions properly - but in my defense, how many times to I have to push confirm to make sure my vote is counted.

18. My wife did the same thing - she said the light went out when she hit |
|
"Confirm." The thank you screen came up and she left.
I feel a little better but I've been telling everybody about this experience and reminding them to pay attention.
The worst part is that I'm one of the smart guys (smart aleck anyway) in the office. When I started saying things like this - people here paid attention.

11. Why dis the high school students? |
|
1. They are probably college students (they were in my neighborhood) 2. They understand electronics better than senior citizens 3. They are taking part in our democracy 4. The problems with voting do not come from poll workers

But really, I'm not going to make much of the reported irregularities because if we win big, then it will all come back to bite us in the ass.
