Long lines, too few machines prompts Ford and Dems to file suit
http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061107/NEWS0206/61107022

Lawyers with the Tennessee Democratic Party will file suit early this afternoon asking that voting hours be extended due to reports of infrastructure problems, a party spokesman said.

The party has received reports that some precincts lacked enough voting machines, voting machines that are not working, long lines and delays in the openings of polling paces, said the spokesman Mark Brown.

Brown said he did not yet know which court party lawyers would file suit in, but said it would be in Davidson County at about 1:30 p.m.

Lawyers had not yet decided whether they would ask that all polls remain open later or ask only that polls in certain regions of the state be open later.

Polls are now scheduled to close across the state at 7 p.m. Central Standard Time in Middle and West Tennessee, and 8 p.m. in East Tennessee.

Some on here may not like Ford, but I'll say one thing for him, he's got balls and so does Tennessee's Dem Party Chair, Bob Tuke.

This is FANTASTIC.

Thanks for sticking up for the voters, guys!

8. At my heavily 'puke precinct about 9:30am with three Deibold machines,
two or three voters waited ahead of us. In and out in less than 15 minutes.

12. Do you know what's going on in more Democratic districts?
It's kind of GOOD news that your Repubican district was so slow.

3. While I applaud this, I HAVE TO ask ...
... why the fuck wasn't a massive turnout or some sort of "possible voter/registered voter head count" anticipated several months ago, and this sort of thing planned for - not only in TN, but EVERYWHERE ????

4. Secretary of State ~ in each state is supposed to calculate how many
machines are needed based upon the number of registered voters.

5. Someone needs to tell some folks in Tennessee that the Voting Rights Act is the law...
not just a set of recommendations.

7. I think that needs to be explained in A LOT of places today,
including Ohio and Pennsylvania.

A lot of Republican dirty tricks abound, nationwide.

10. Even if Memphis voters get to vote, here's what may happen to their votes.
I posted this thread this weekend to present hard evidence of the multitude of vote-rigging software we found on the Diebold vote tabulator in Memphis, when that machine was impounded after some shenanigans in the primary. Tennessee is in big trouble, and we need to start repairing our problems by firing the existing State Election Coordinator, who testified that there was nothing wrong with having at least three different software programs on the Memphis vote tabulator that could be used to flip votes, including being able to do it remotely via the internet.

Enough is (fucking) enough!!

11. I read that this morning - that's frightening.
I forwarded that to my husband who just called me ranting about it.

Maybe Ford will have the balls to challenge this thing should it be close.

18. My boss voted around 9 this morning and he said
there was no line, no waiting. I don't know whether he is in a Republican district or not. It is Memphis but East. And you know they had a problem during early voting where some voting "stuff" came up missing. They assured everyone that it was not a problem but I don't know.
