AP: 1/3 of Evangelicals voted for Dems
http://electioncentral.tpmcafe.com/blog/electioncentral/2006/nov/07/associated_press_exit_polls_a_third_of_evangelicals_vote_for_dems

Those early exit polls also showed that three in four voters said corruption was very important to their vote, and they tended to vote Democratic. In a sign of a dispirited GOP base, most white evangelicals said corruption was very important to their vote — and almost a third of them turned to the Democrats.

. . .

Two out of three voters called the war very important to them and said they leaned toward the Democrats, while six in ten voters said they disapproved of the war. About the same number said they were dissatisfied with the president — and they were far more likely to vote Democratic.

1. IF that is true
Then this will be a fun night

Good Christians wouldn't lie to the exit pollsters would they?

2. Some evangelicals are liberal. Despite the righties trying to
coopt the term, along with Christian, there are liberals out there who also claim those terms.

4. Not if they're really

good Christians. There are no perfect Christians (or perfect people of any sort) but there are many good ones who wouldn't lie.

7. A work associate...
...has a long checklist for potential mate.

< > evangelical Christian
< > no drugs, alcohol or tobacco
< > between 24-30
< > ...about 10 others...
< > very liberal voting Democratic

This is in Missouri. Hey, I figure I've about as much chance of getting my "checklist" filled from top to bottom, I guess it happens though : )

13. If this is true this is a clincher, but I'm still cautious. We all should be.

17. Compare to 2004 exit polls
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/US/P/00/epolls.0.html

Granted, these numbers were retro-rigged, but the evangelicals allegedly split 78-21 two years ago.

18. This is actually not surprising as I heard much the same thing about 2004.
Edited on Tue Nov-07-06 07:23 PM by LoZoccolo
It sounds like the number has grown a little but I think I remember seeing that it was 30% in 2004.

The story that evangelical = Republican is a canard that the Republicans float in order to wrest our evangelicals from the party. What's lunacy is that we help them along in that process by doing what we can to throw them out, intentionally or not.

19. Isn't it usually close to 0% of evangelicals who vote for Democrats? (I get
my fundamentalists and my evangelicals mixed up.)
