The Greens don't have a candidate running in VA for senate.

12. That's not the Green Party
That candidate is a right winger and not affiliated with the Green Party at all.

23. Makes me wonder how many other of these "green independents"
are out there.

Well, next time I suggest you check their candidates page. I was fooled by this earlier today when a right wing liar I know from VA claimed to have voted for a Green Candidate.

19. What do you know?
So much for the knee jerk reaction I suppose.

In Virginia's Senate race pitting Republican Sen. George Allen against Democrat Jim Webb, the third party candidate and potential spoiler is Glenda "Gail" Parker, who is actually a Green of a different color.

In fact, she's not a Green at all, and that's where the confusion lies.

Parker will appear on the ballot under the banner of the Independent Green Party. Political analysts suggest her support _ about 2 percent in the polls _ comes from the name association with the Greens, a leftish party that not only advocates environmental stewardship but also takes liberal positions on abortion, economics and social justice issues.

But the Independent Greens promote themselves as "Common Sense Conservative Greens."

"We're conservative, unlike the national Green Party," said Parker, 59, a resident of Alexandria.

3. That Is What They Do, Sir
As a practical matter, the Green party is simply the left auxiliary of the Republican electoral machine.

6. Meh. Fact is that the Confederacy is simply beyond
any possible redemption. If a Democrat like Jim Webb can't beat a man like George Webb in purportedly purple Confederate state in a year like this, we should just forget the South ever existed as far as Presidential races are concerned.

15. that's it in a nutshell
There's no way a man like George Allen should get more than 15 or 20 percent of the vote. Doesn't speak highly of Virgina.

9. They wouldn't vote for us anyway.
So fuck'em. A vote for a green is not a vote for a dem. Those greenies are losers who will never see past the end of their hemp shoes to see the true balance of power in the US. They aren't worth worrying about.

14. If they wanted to advance the things they CLAIM to want to advance,
they would; and the Green Party would get them to the polls to vote for Democrats as the only chance for getting any of it done (let alone stemming the DISASTERS of the GOP's reign).

11. As an EX-Green....
I can say honestly that NO, I'm not proud of voting Nader in 2000, but that the Dem party would do well by picking up and absorbing the Green agenda if they don't want shit like this to happen - it's not like the Libertarian candidate siphons a proportionate amount of votes from the republicans, y'know?

If you don't want the Green party to have a negative effect, give those on the left something to vote for.

18. I voted for Nader too and like the Green party. I do know NOT to vote
Green for anything that affects federal races.

I agree with you that the Dems should incorporate some Green thought -- like instant run-off voting.

28. ....He ran as a centrist in 2000.
Yes, in hindsight, I can see I fucked up. But back in 2000, it sure seemed like a choice between moldy roast beef or soggy wheat bread.

It's nice that Gore has begun to embrace his left-er roots. If he had only been bolder about it in 2000, Nader wouldna been a factor.

(And, yes, I'd vote for him in a freakin' HEARTBEAT if he were running today.)

Perhaps somebody should establish a forum for 1)these threads and 2)FReekshow threads whining about the Libertarians "stealing" their Pubbie votes -- and then seal it off from the rest of the universe, like that Star Trek episode with the two identical guys stuck between dimensions battling each other for the rest of eternity.
