A short tribute to Samm Simpson, who fought the good fight in |
|
FL-10. I met Samm when she was collecting signatures outside the local library to run against C.W. "Bill" Young. With no support from the Democratic party, she was the first and only person to get on a federal ballot here by collecting signatures rather than paying the $9,000 plus fee to get on the ballot. With no money to speak of and again no support from the Democratic party, she ran the best grass roots campaign she could aqainst Mr. Young, who scarcely acknowledged her existence. It was an honor to be involved in her campaign and to meet and work with her band of volunteers.
The voters in FL-10 chose to send a 76 year-old man back to Congress. Samm got 34% of the vote against an 18 term Republican Congressman. The Democratic Party's self-fulfilling prophecy that Samm didn't have a chance proved to be true.

Thanks to all of the amazing Dem candidates who poured their hearts and souls into their races and who deserve the credit for the wins that are creeping across the nation...
