You all realize what we've gotten, right?
We got the House for sure. We got subpoena power. We got investigatory power. We got John Conyers and Charlie Rangell and John Dingell and Henry Waxman ..... and .......

But we also got a boatload of pretty conservative Democrats in office.

Don't take that as a complaint. It absolutely is not. It means our party is more representative of the country as a whole than theirs is. To me, that's a good thing.

But a few of these freshmen will give us fits every now and again.

Again, I'm not complaining and I am happy as a clam.

But I'm also a realist. This is the 'cost' of being an honest majority party.

1. Whatever
We won so big we can leave the conservative dems behind. We only need 218 votes, not 235.

2. There's something else we've gotten...
A country has spoken and said "ok, you were right, this is a giant fucking mess....now fix it." I hope our newly elected house is up to the task.

5. I think they're more than up to it.
In fact, I think that's what they got elected for.

Sure, other issues, too, but the war is numero uno.

3. We also gained seats in the Senate (at least) plus a bunch of....
Governorships.

It's a big, big power shift.

*, Cheney and company are officially in deep shit.

4. it's a long term problem-- not tonight, but liberal dems will be more...
...and more alienated if the party moves further to the right as a consequence. I can only speak for myself, but my feeling is that on the left we view this as only a first step toward repairing America-- and lots of feet will be held to the fire.

9. I think I'm pretty much where you are, Mike.
The one thing they all agree on is the war.

Their solutions may be different, but none of them have the bush war hard on.

10. Dave, I could not agree more.
Did you have fun today? :)

We sure as hell did .... tromping through Columbia knocking on doors and eating lasagne at campaign headquarters in Howard county!

11. For many I think this was a vote about trust
Most people like to think that our representatives are representing us and doing our work for us. We have to lay a certain amount of trust upon them to do what we deem is the right thing when making and passing laws. Coordinating our money, too. Most don't like to think about all of that, so when they keep hearing about all the corruption, it makes them very unhappy.
