The odds were against any Democrat winning there, but this particular Democrat is a big phony and he has a lot of family baggage. The more I read about that guy, the less I liked him. The reason Ford lost is because he's located in a state where very few Democrats, if any, would've done as well as Ford did.

Take a look at Tennessee's Congressional delegation: Four repubs and three "blue dog" Democrats plus two other Democrats (Bart Gordon. who supports repeal of the estate tax, and newly elected Steve Cohen, who appears to be relatively progressive, although its a bit hard to say how progressive)

Compared to the majority of the Tennessee congressional delegation, the DLC is too liberal.
