Neither of which is particularly wanted in Tennessee when they could get a hard core white republican.

10. I say race
People in Eastern TN wouldn't vote for Ford cause he's a "you know what, starts with N"

Shame when it's 2006 and a black man still can win a statewide election in the south.

Just a shame.

How schmuchy was he compared to that ass hole Corker?

TN didn't see through anything. This just proves TN as a state has a lot of racist fuckers, just like VA.

I'm sick of people bashing Ford, as though a more liberal candidate could have won freakin TN!

And I don't understand your point. A more conservative candidate didn't win TN either. He didn't lose for being to conservative or being too close to the DLC. He just didn't impress me toward the end there.

46. Bigot much?
Hillbillies, btw, weren't racist. They fought with the north in the Civil War.

And, he lost because of our lousy media and because so many here simply refuse to vote for anyone who doesn't have an "R" after their name.

Race was very, very, very minor.

8. Because he's in Tennessee, that's why. And that stupid bimbo ad.
He would have done a lot better in a northern state. Crooked Corker, those in Tennessee who voted for him get what they deserve, but they're probably the same stupid bunch that wouldn't vote for Gore in 2000.

As for the Tennesseans who voted for Ford, damn good fight, y'all. :toast:

As much as that nauseates most of us here, he came closer than any Democrat in the south, particularly a black Democrat, to a Senate seat - by 50,000 votes apparently.

Kudos to Harold for running a brilliant campaign.

But otherwise he's a good candidate and I'm sure he'll be back.

This is fuckin TN, where Kerry lost by DOUBLE DIGITS.

Ford was within three points. That's the same margin Gore lost it by.

This was a tough state, and as a black man in a confederate state, he did pretty damn good. There was a lot of nasty racist shit flung by the republicans in this race.

38. One of the reasons could be the 2 million dollars Corker
donated to his own campaign last Thursday, too late for Ford to benefit from the move which allowed him to receive a much larger donation from individual doners. In addition to the racism of course.

As if TN would have voted for a black ultra liberal. Sorry, I think it was the race thing. That's why Corker started with an advantage.
I don't think that another Dem could have done a better job than Ford there.

41. He may not have won even if he was white
The odds were against any Democrat winning there, but this particular Democrat is a big phony and he has a lot of family baggage. The more I read about that guy, the less I liked him. It would have pained me to have to vote for him if I lived in Tennessee. He is a Republican for all intents and purposes and I don't think we should be shedding any tears over this one.

40. Only a fool would say that and really believe that's why Ford lost
This is just a lame attempt by you at venting about the DLC, not Ford. The DLC has their faults, but they're not the reason why Harold Ford lost. If you think this, then you know little about Ford. The reason Ford lost is because he's located in a state where very few Democrats, if any, would've done as well as Ford did.

45. hey alamodemoc -- spend much time in TN?
Take a look at Tennessee's Congressional delegation: Four repubs and three "blue dog" Democrats plus two other Democrats (Bart Gordon. who supports repeal of the estate tax, and newly elected Steve Cohen, who appears to be relatively progressive, although its a bit hard to say how progressive)

Compared to the majority of the Tennessee congressional delegation, the DLC is too liberal.
