done. Powerful. Dignified. Strong leader. Damn sad he didn't win this one.

Maybe Utah? Ooops, wrong religion.

Ford is not a good politician in any vernacular.

Point not proven.

12. You must be joking????
Ummmmm, perhaps you don't know or understand that the Republicans funded and supported Lieberman?

Perhaps you are hung-up on usless labels with no real understanding of the new linguistics?

Harold Ford = Joe Lieberman without the tan. DUH!!!

37. Ford is an excellent candidate...
and also a good moderate democrat. You CANNOT expect to hang on to a majority if you don't move to the center some - especially in the south!

42. Not necessarily
Ford was against being in Iraq while Lieberman is for staying the course. Ford is also for balancing the budget and not Bush's tax cuts and is for affordable health care. There is a lot to disagree with Ford on but c'mon you can't compare him totally to Lieberman. They do have a lot in common but I'd say Ford is more of a democrat than Lieberman and I'm in TN.

5. He lost me some when he took the Republicans side re: Kerry
He didn't need to to that. He either wasn't terribly bright, or was trying to exploit the moment, which would make him somewhat unethical.

27. It's unbelievable how petty some people can be, isn't it.
How sad that instead of complimenting Ford for such a great fight, some posters (not you) get all nitpicky about him for obvious self serving reasons.

34. Of course I would have voted for him...
... or any Dem to help break up this vile Repub hegemony, but Ford's constant religiosity, the anti-Kerry grandstanding, and his vote in favor of Bush's torture bill make him something short of a great progressive candidate.

He's a smart guy, and he did fight a good fight, but he's not going to be my hero.

43. Not really
If I am remembering correctly Ford was a very early supporter of Kerry's even during the primary's and while they were still going. He could have supported Lieberman than but he didn't.

20. The big question is: when is the next Tennessse senate race?
A man like that MUST come back and go for another run. He is a great man, he is destined to win. He has presidential ability. A black Democrat who can win in the South. A person like that would be even stronger than Obama.

Of course liberals would not be so happy with someone like that as a President since he is socially conservative.

30. Definitely presidential material
He can bring in the conservative vote in the red states & at the same time get Democrat's to vote for him in the blue states. He has lost by a small margin in a red state. This state is also full of white people who just do not feel right electing a black man to congress. So he has done a great job.

40. I doubt that
Ford will try to run against Alexander. Alexander is the former governor of TN and was President of the University of TN for awhile. Alexander is very well liked in East TN and liked everywhere in the state. He's been around a LONG time. Corker was only "okay" and not as well known or respected as ALexander.
MY hope for Harold Ford, Jr. is that Gov. Bredesen will give him a cabinet level position and that he will run for Governor when Bredesen's term is over in 4 years.

45. I think so too
I would love it if he could come back. He did really well (I believe he only lost by 3%) so he could take it than with Alexander's seat. He was a class act all the way through while Corker is a boob.

disagree that racism factored into the outcome?

That ad! OMG.

Nobody, I don't care whether they're a DINO or not, deserves to lose at the hands of racists.

It's really a tragedy.

Come to think of it, all the Repub concession speeches were music to my ears.

33. He is going to go far.
He has the ability to talk to the people in a way that makes them hang on every word. I watched him, last night, and the people were really focusing on him...feeling what he was saying. He wasn't spouting off political goals or boring numbers, he was explaining what happened to his run and why he lost. He has a way that will get him far, once he gets a little more mileage on him.

It would be interesting to listen to Ford, Barack and Tiger Woods, sitting around having a beer and chewing the fat. They are all fun and not full of themselves.
