Now, about that Filibuster 'Nuclear' option... among other things
I really hope that the dem wins are the beginning of a watershed movement to restore the republic to We, the People.

A few items from my wish list:

-- Withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan and stop threatening Iran with 'consequences', rather use diplomacy.

-- The hole that the rethugs used to try and push through the 'nuclear' option on the filibuster should be filled.

-- The unPATRIOTic Act, and all it's grotesque counterparts should be repealed in full.

-- a REAL 911 investigation would be prudent.

-- a REAL investigation as to the reasons we illegally invaded a sovereign nation(s) would be prudent.

To name just a handful. Overall, the rethugs have shown us where the weak points in the checks and balances are, and we should work to check and balance those areas, so that they're not able to do it again. This country, like it or not, is (in theory) a democratic republic. It is not a corporate theocracy. When thieves break into the coop, as we just spent the last 6 years witnessing, the damage that they can do ought to be minimized. I sincerely hope we'll see that. I sincerely hope that these incoming elected officials realize that they were elected to make changes, not to support the status quo.

If anything, this election was a referendum on the Status Quo, and it lost big.

Just my two cents. :-)

1. We also need to pay attention to

what China and Russia are up to -- they both need oil and China's been befriending the Muslim world for years. China owns a lot of U.S. debt and a lot of our jobs have gone there. The Chinese can be ruthless (Tiantimen Square, for example) and Russia's president was KGB so he's no cream puff, either. I read the other day that the reason Russia refused offers of help to rescue the trapped sailors on that sub (the "Minsk") several years ago was that rescuers would have discovered some super-duper nuclear weapons onboard the sub. May just be rumour but may be true.

We need to try to build good relations across the world but also keep an eye on those who may be a threat to us. Speak softly but carry a big stick, perhaps.

2. the biggest threat to us, is ourselves
IMO.

I believe the power to destroy the planet many times over is a large enough stick. Perhaps we ought to try and get back to allowing humans to be human, rather than drones.

The best way to get our debt in-line is to stop illegally invading other countries and focus on sensible fiscal policy.

Sure, we need to keep an eye on the other players, but that's no reason for collective paranoia. :-)

Just my two cents.
