Fairfax county has just posted 30K absentee votes!
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 10:53 AM by Virginian
Provisional should be posted soon.

16,464 for Webb
10,439 Allen

on edit:
30K Absentee ballots were mailed out but not necessarily returned with votes.

Second edit:
I take that back. It looks like those were the number actually voted.

11. So 6000 plus 8000 that makes...
over 1/2 percent right. He would have to foot the bill for a recount?

8. Oh, heck, let them recount. Let THEM say the machine results can't be trusted.
We'll still win and the machines will be history.

19. He won't concede
He'll pay for the recount. If it was over 1%, he'd go to court. He's a sociopath, a megalomaniac, and a bully.

13. Something is strange in the totals.
Webb was winning before, now, the county totals show Allen in the lead?????

20. From what I understand a state funded recount will be
conducted IF the losing candidate requests one AND the vote margin is less than 1%.

31. dubykc has it right, I think.
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 12:21 PM by C_eh_N_eh_D_eh
As I understand it from other posts:

Let x = difference between majority and minority candidates.

0.0% < x < 0.5% -- Minority candidate can request a recount. Recount is funded by public (i.e. taxpayer's) money.

0.5% < x < 1.0% -- Minority candidate can request a recount. If the recount still rules in favour of the majority candidate, the minority candidate must pay the expenses.

So if the final vote shows Webb more than half a percentage point ahead, a recount would require Allen to bet not only his job, but also a significant amount of money.

Edit: My bad, I didn't read the above posts properly. Yes, a STATE-FUNDED recount would require a margin of 0.5% or smaller. But I think a 1.0% recount would also be payed for by the state *if* it ended up handing the race to Allen.

23. it's reported that there are about only 5000 vote total in those precincts
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 10:27 AM by cnlst8
Although 3 of the 4 precinct favor Allen, there won't be enough.
If they decide to count the Webb 6000+ vote lead in absentee ballots as well as Webb lead in provisional ballot, this race is over.

25. The totals are being posted and typos have been made.
PRECINCT------REG.VOTERS /Machine * /VOTES % //ALLEN /WEBB /PARKER
301 CHAIN BRIDGE 3,423 /1,800 322 /2,122 62.0 // 765 /1024 /11
311 LANGLEY 2,172 /21,487 236 /21,723 10,439.0 //16464 /231 /4792

Bold is Percentage. Look at precinct 311 which was obviously miskeyed.

* Absentee votes mailed out but not necessarily returned with votes.
