Dr. Robert Michael Gates (born September 25, 1943) is the President of Texas A&M University and the National President of the National Eagle Scout Association. Previously he served as Director of Central Intelligence from November 6, 1991 until January 20, 1993, capping a 26-year career in the CIA and the National Security Council. On November 8, 2006, Gates was nominated by President George W. Bush to be the 22nd United States Secretary of Defense to replace Donald Rumsfeld. He and his wife Becky have two children.
