"What A Fool Believes" (Doobie Brothers song) keeps playing
in my head every time I watch Bush do a press conference...

But what a fool believes he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away
What seems to be
Is always better than nothing
Theres nothing at all
But what a fool believes he sees...

1. Good one... here's what keeps going through my head:
And now, the end is near,
And so I face the final curtain.
My friends, I'll say it clear;
I'll state my case of which I'm certain.

...

Regrets? I've had a few,
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

I planned each charted course -
Each careful step along the byway,
And more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew,
When I bit off more than I could chew,
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall
And did it my way.

I've loved, I've laughed and cried,
I've had my fill - my share of losing.
...

3. Given the symbolism of elephants and a certain smirking monkey.
I keep thinking of a little verse from my childhood:

I went to the Animal Fair.
The birds and the beasts were there.
The big baboon by the light of the moon
Was combing his auburn hair.

The monkey fell out of his bunk,
And slid down the elephant's trunk.
The elephant sneezed, and fell on his knees,
And that was the end of the monkey, monkey, monkey, munk!
