Playboy "bunny" from anti-Ford commercial: Ad wasn't racist
Texas woman was banned from talking until after election, says the firestorm surprised her

By JESSICA FENDER
Staff Writer

The 20-something blonde who winked into the camera and asked now-defeated U.S. Senate candidate Harold Ford Jr. to "call me" isn't a bimbo, she says, she just played one on TV.

Johanna Goldsmith, an Austin, Texas, actor whose appearance in an anti-Ford ad touched off a national political and racial firestorm, was contractually barred from interviews until after Election Day.

As the spot was criticized as tacky and latently racist, calls from friends started pouring in alerting Goldsmith to her newfound fame, she said. A friend from Australia even called to tell her she'd made the cover of a major magazine in Melbourne.

Goldsmith, who has Mexican heritage and says she has "dated all nationalities," said she didn't see the ad as racist.

2. I'm inclined to agree. If you've never been in or around "the biz" it is hard
to understand what a cesspool it is and it is unheard of for a nobody trying to make it to turn down a national spot, no matter what it is for.

4. Well bimbo aptly describes her.
She has no clue about politics, probably while filming had no idea Harold was black, and could care less about the sensitive racial tensions in the South having lived a sheltered life as a daddy's girl. I've dated her type. Self-absorbed to a fault, perfect Republican material.

6. She can kiss any hopes of an acting career
in Hollywood bye-bye. Once it becomes known she did "that" ad, she'll find every door closed to her. As big as the film industry is, it is, in reality, a very small community.
