Republicans Will Pressure Allen... Soon
November 08, 2006

Top Republicans in Washington will give Sen. George Allen a few days to take stock of his legal and political options before beginning to pressure him to concede to James Webb. Senior Republican officials and White House aides believe that Webb won the race. Several outside advisers to Allen want him to make the decision quickly; others in his campaign want to make sure that there's no chance a cache of new votes will turn up. One question: when will (will?) the AP call the race?

1. What's the rush? It'll be 2 months before Webb is sworn in.
Let them recount.

3. As he should. He's the apparent winner.
However, we should make every effort to verify the election results...and we have the time to do so.

4. Oh, I agree, and why I'm not *officially* celebrating yet ....
:toast:  :toast:

Here's a snip from today's campaign email:

"....This was a close race, and we have every confidence in the state’s process of counting votes which will now occur over the next few days. Virginia has a history of handling close elections with efficiency and accuracy and we trust that nothing will interfere with the will of the people of Virginia.

Know that we will fight hard to make sure that doesn't happen. The reality is that Jim Webb is up by over 7,000 votes. No US Senate race in modern times has been overturned -- even races where the victor won by only a few hundred votes. This one won't be overturned either.

I promise you. We will not allow that to happen.

This race should not drag our state into a costly legal battle. We trust that all involved know that and will do the right thing to let the voices of our Virginia voters be heard as soon as possible.

Virginians have spoken. It’s time to honor their wishes...."

5. Ed Rollings on CNN/Dobbs said
.. that Allen should just be gracious and let it go otherwise people are going to consider the GOP 'sore losers' and think that perhaps they ARE trying to steal it, and it will make the entire party look bad.

... like it can look any worse than it already does???
