The tide of Public opinion forces them to, which is to say when people believe:
1)That Allen got as close as he got via dirty tricks, intimidation, and misleading ads. Every Dem surrogate from now until the second Macaca concedes should relentlessly hit that point, citing the taped messages, the FBI investigation of the polling place "switches," the ads, etc.
2)That the only way Allen ever
could conceivably find the votes is through tampering with the touchscreen machine tabulations. This should also be repeated over and over along with a question, "Where on earth will 7000 votes come from?"
3)That Ed Gillespie is an election theft specialist, a quintessential GOP nasty hack, trying desperately to save the Senate to protect the interests of the Special interests he represents as a lobbyist.
4)That Allen is a power hungry, "sore-losermanesque" crybaby willing to resort to any means to hold onto his personal power, even against the will of the voters. TV and Radio audiences should be referred to Allen's words about the 200 election, as other DUers have pointed out.
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/11/8/121127/066Sadly, I've heard far more Dem talkers say that they want the "process" to move forward, and politely "urge" Allen to concede, etc, than hit any of the above point. With an organized, concerted, message effort run competently by the DNC and the Reid's office we could get rid of allen within 72 hours.
