The biggest disappointments in last night's election.
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 07:40 PM by Cascadian
With the great showing of the Democrats this year, there were still some sad footnotes to mention. Tammy Duckworth, an Iraq War veteran lost to a chickenhawk in Illinois. Peter Goldmark, the Democratic candidate in my current congressional district in Eastern Washington, fell short of unseating Bush crony Cathy McMorris. Apparently, we still have a lot of righty wingnuts here. Ned Lamont's loss was also a disappointment.

All in all, I felt good about last night. Cathy McMorris is going to have a hard time getting anything done in the next Congress. That to me is satisfying enough.

3. I would go with Gerlach in PA.
He was orginally supposed to be the most vulnerable of those three suburban seats and we didn't get him. Oh well, next time we can get him.

16. Yes, Lois Murphy's loss to Gerlach was a big disappointment.
She was a victim of smear ads and those damned robo-calls.

4. Wisconsin voted for hate and discrimination
Our Constitution now has a discrimination amendment - People here love to feel superior to gays and they showed it yesterday. More than half the people that voted said yes to hate.

They also said yes to state sanctioned murder - most of the people that voted for the death penalty are the same ones that whine about taxes. I wonder how they'll like the tax hike to implement and pay for the appeals for death row inmates? Thankfully this was just an advisory referendum.

5. All the gay marriage bans, and that revolting . . .
. . . Musgrave beating Paccione in Colorado. Ugh. And Angie came so damn close in a HEAVY Repub district.

7. Mean Jean Schmidt winning and Lieberman
Though I'm not sure Wulsin has yet conceded.

Lieberman, well, someday a word will coined to describe him, something like quisling.

I hated to see Crist win as well, but I really distrust the Florida system.

Last, I hated to see the marijuana initiatives go down in Colorado and Nevada.

8. Let me add what happened in Idaho
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 07:50 PM by Cascadian
In nearby Idaho, businessman Jerry Brady lost to career politician Butch Otter for Governor and Larry Grant lost to ultra-righty yahoo Bill Sali for Idaho's 1st Congressional district. We we maybe gaining ground in some rural "red" parts of America, there is still a long way to go.

11. I'm still in Republican hell here in Florida
Republicans swept just about everything here, Governor, Attorney General, AG commissioner, overwhelming majorities of both the house and senate. Only Bill (major Tom) Nelson held on and he is a pseudocrat who votes with the Repubs a lot, he voted for the flag burning amendment recently. Alas, we hear the war between the blue and the red is going well, but we still need to be liberated here in the deep south.

15. It's gonna take a while, I'm afraid...
Deep south mentality in the panhandle/north + Cuban exile dominance in the south means we're gonna have to fight extra hard to see any change. As far as the state legislature goes, nothing's gonna change until we find a way to take away their power to choose their own district lines. They basically have the power to guarantee that they'll never lose an election.

I feel your pain, though. I hate it here.

12. For me it was our candidates in Nebraska
I thought all three of them had at least an outside shot. I was also hoping Bill Sali would go down in Idaho and anyone threatening a handicapped person after a debate would get beat.
