Poppy and his friends are once again planning an intervention to bail out Dimson. 41's consigliere, Jim Baker, has been dispatched to conjure a fig leaf large enough to cover our departure from the debacle that is Iraq. It is no coincidence that Gates is a member of Baker's study group. His role is not just to supplant the walking disaster that is Rummy, but also to provide an on-site nanny to counter Cheney's influence as they perform the delicate task of walking the boy President back to the land of reality.
It is not at all clear whether Doofus will allow Daddy and his friends to rescue him. It is clear, however, that the course of the next 2 years will be markedly and dangerously different if he rebuffs the grownups' efforts to save him. Rush was in high dudgeon today as he contemplated the herculean strides that are going to have to be made to salvage his legacy and inch him up to one of the five worst presidents in our history from his current position as the consensus poster boy for executive incompetence and venality.
For my part, I hope Baker works his magic by producing the best of what most certainly will be terrible alternatives. The killing that this criminal regime set in motion will continue long after we are gone. But the first step in the region regaining some sort of stability is for us to come home.

step in AGAIN, and save his sorry ass. After all, that's how it's ALWAYS been. That template has been in place over duhbya's entire lifetime, and he's gone that route dozens of times by now. It's what he's used to doing, and this time will just be the latest case in which that pattern is followed. It's how things are with this bunch. Why should the boy idiot veer from it now? If anything I'd think he'd be that much more eager to get his ass pulled out of a sling by daddy's rescue squad. He's in SO deep and has fucked up SO monumentally, and he's got a helluva lot more to lose if they don't work it for him again. Like treason charges, impeachment, war crimes tribunals, and more.
