Nancy Pelosi will be 4th in Order of Succession for Presidency
When we take VA, who will be Senate Pro Tem?

Meaning, if Bush and Cheney resign/are forced out, who would be the next President?

7. Now wouldn't that be cool. I'll never forget Byrd asking
about the push to war in Iraq: "Why Here... Why Now!" He railed against the war.

Cheney resigns like Agnew, Bush hires another repug to VP slot, then retires himself and the repug VP hired hand pardons him.

19. No. No. The Senate, our Dem Senate, would have to confirm a new VP.
We would just do without a VP until President Nancy moves into the White House.

12. "Third" if you count the actual prez as "first"...
... and second if you are talking about succession ie not counting the President.

So (Bush), Cheney, Pelosi, Byrd, Rice, Paulson, Rumsfeld (for now) ...

So by all means hope for some resignations or quail hunting accidents, but make sure they don't knock out too many people or it'll be President Condi ;)

Or President Rumsfeld...

15. Byrd becomes pro-tem, what's funny is that Ted Kennedy is after him
Edited on Wed Nov-08-06 08:34 PM by Hippo_Tron
Assuming Byrd's health takes a toll and he has to resign in the middle of his term (not that I would ever wish this on him but at his age it is always a possibility), Ted Kennedy becomes 3rd in line to succeed the President. The pukes will have a fit.

16. Second in line to succeed the presidency
In the Presidential Line of Succession, the Speaker is second in the line, after the Vice President of the United States and before the President Pro Tempore of the United States Senate.

18. so let's say that both the pres and vp contract salmonella from
their TG turkey and despite the doctors' best effort, they both die (painful deaths). Does Hastert or Pelosi become the new president? if it is hastert does he serve the remaining two years?

23. Um...no
Nancy Pelosi becomes the Speaker of the House in January. If something happened to Bush and Cheney right now, I assume Hastert would become President and would probably serve out the next two years.

22. She'll be third and Bryd should be Pro Tem as he is the senior
Democrat in the Senate.

Bush and Cheney aren't going to be forced out (impeached and convicted) together. It would be seen as a semi-legal coup d'etat on the part of the Democrats. It's remotely possible they would resign together, but highly unlikely. To answer the question, whoever Bush or Cheney would appoint as his VP. There would be a VP between Pelosi and the WH.
