Thank God for Howard Dean and the 50 state strategy.
Going into the election there were genius consultants who were content to limit the Democratic battle map to New York and Connecticut.Had that school of thought prevailed we might well have eked out a majority in the House but would have forfeited our opportunity to demonstrate the power of the Democratic message on a nationwide basis. One of the talking heads stumbled on the truth last night by commenting that the Repub incumbents that survived were expecting a stiff challenge. The ones that lost were the ones that were surprised by the emergence of strong opposition. People will not follow us if we refuse to lead. We will not be successful when we let DC gurus pull out of states like Missouri early and/or limit the campaign in Ohio to 17 counties as they did in "08.
The '06 mid terms speak volumes for Democrats that have the courage of their convictions and a party that refuses to be marginalized by geography or timidity.

6. You are exactly right. Party building is a long arduous process.
But it is essential that we capitalize on the momentum generated this year. I am almost giddy when I think of the range of new exciting, attractive candidates. You don't get that kind of diversity and enthusiasm if your approach to winning is to write off huge chunks of the country and its citizens. Let the party building continue throughout the nation. Let's not start any election cycle believing that our message will be rejected by 45% of thr US.
