If Bush wanted to be 'bi-partisan' he'd stop calling us "Democrat Party"
His speech on bipartisanship today was filled with doublespeak. "I spoke with Nancy Pelosi and her Democrat collegues." Yeah bipartisan....

1. Honest to Christ, that drives me crazy, totally. I see it so often here on
DU, too - I think some people don't get how disrespectful and ignorant it is, oh well. But coming from THAT motherfucker, yeah, it's very purposeful, and when he switches to "Democratic party", I might believe him.

3. That's what I said to him
I sent an email to the White House earlier today to tell him just that. I thuink I might keep writing to let him know I notice when he "slips". Heh heh

5. NOBODY ever calls him on it
It's weird how no one in the media picks up on it.

6. I wrote to Pelosi too
I also wrote to Pelosi to ask her to make the same request of him. Apparently as I am not a constituent, she is enjoined from replying to my email, although I got a reply to tell me that. But someone in her office will read it. I went ballistic when Suzanne Malveaux referred to the "Democrat leadership" in a report this afternoon and I fired off an email to CNN to let them know that this is not acceptable from reporters. If we let people continue to use this without demur, it WILL become the new standard.

I suggest that people make a practice of complaining to the networks when on air correspondents do this shit. It's like a secret handshake that tells the Republicans not to worry that they are not any more unbiased than they can avoid.

Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 10:48 PM by Evergreen Emerald
The fact that the media is spewing the right-wing talking points so blatantly pisses me off.

I wrote to Pelosi yesterday regarding the same issue! I also got the canned response.

10. This is such a miniscule issue ....
It cracks me up when DUers harrumph so completely about those two little letters ....

Really : WHO the fuck cares about those letters ? .... I have been a Democrat all my life, and I have never found this issue to matter one iota ....

Much ado about nothing .... Lets talk about minimum wage/bankruptcy bill/social security/war and peace/college funding/public schooling/alternative energy/mass transit ....

ANYTHING but those stupid little letters ....

13. Ive been in this argument before .....
I dont intend to get too wrapped up in it now ...

It is hypersensitive Democrats that provoke this misdirection by overreacting to a perceived slight .... but it ISNT a slight, unless you make it one ....

Like the 'Joseph' who gets all worked up because someone calls him 'Joe' .... It makes no sense to me .....

21. Then I suppose you don't mind if they fight to get rid of the "Death Tax?"
It came from the same coterie of Republican thugs (including Rove) that came up with Death Tax. It has been calculated to insult--and their internal polling shows that it leaves a negative effect on interpretations. The ACTUAL reason they quit using Democratic is because democratic is very closely associated with positive aspects of the word for Democracy (i.e., most people would rather live in a "democracy" than in a "republic" and so they are eager to take away that association.)

31. Honestly ? ..
THAT is your argument ? .... an obvious 'coarse non sequitur' ? ...

The name game is a psychological gambit to induce comfort .... yeah .. the 'Death Tax' has more bite than 'Estate Tax' ..... but this is a completely different ploy ....

If a Repuke said to you "You in the Democrat Party dont know anything about creating jobs !" ....

You could respond by saying "That is nonsense: The Democratic Party has a LONG history of creating the conditions for the creation of GOOD paying jobs over a wide sector of the population ..."

Or you could say "Did YOU just call us 'The DEMOCRAT Party' ? ... How insulting ! .. How DARE you ... Why I Never ! ..... How could you call us such a thing ? ..."

Now: WHO is communicating more effectively ? .... WHO is giving the listener the BEST, most informative commentary and/or rhetoric ? ...

The 'problem' is not cutting those two stupid letters off: the problem is dwelling on those two letters at the expense of our own message ....

BLOW it off .... Ignore it .... stomp on them with a factual message that undercuts their support ....

To give them any creedence on this issue gives them too much power .. power they dont deserve ....

ROLL over them, and attack their lame policies ....

Those two letters will be long forgotten ...

I think we should ask the Dem Leadership to start doing it... The Publican agenda is Wrong for America. Publicans should rethink their stand on Social security. Publicans really need to get behind Public education.. They are Publicans after all....

22. Yes. Time to be civil. They might start with that small, but
symbolic step.

Democratic is an adjective. Democrat is a noun. Grammar is your friend, even if you haven't visited in quite a while, GWB.

26. Politicians and reporters should be corrected each time.
Methinks it's a subtle or not-so-subtle emphasis on the ending,as in DemocRAT. Annoying at best, but a subtle message at worst.
