My American Flag is FLYING in GERMANY today |
|
With the win in the Senate, I am overcome this morning...I can't stop crying. Six years of a national nightmare hopefully coming to an end, Bush rendered impotent and unable to do more global damage. A tidal wave of tears came over me when I read the headlines that Webb took Virginia and Allen is conceding.
For the first time in six years I feel hope for America, and I can hold my head up high again in Germany and fly MY Flag, OUR Flag. It was an emotional moment unfurling Old Glory, knowing so many people have died fighting for what the red, white and blue truly stands for...freedom, hope, Democracy -- and not for what Bush's cronies have used it to advance, their crusade of hatred, bullying and world domination.
Hat's off to you kids, I think we're on the upslope of this awful period.
Sign me, one very happy ExPAT

1. What a statement it would make if |
|
we all got our flags out of their dusty closets and flew them high now, huh? If not now, when?

2. I flew my flag today in a mostly Repug neighborhood. |
|
I'm sure it pissed off some of my neighbors. LOL!
I went to a BBQ restaurant in Dallas for dinner and they were actually playing the Dixie Chicks on the radio.
The long nightmare is coming to an end. We can finally start to restore our freedom, values, and credibility.

3. Most of my Expat/Emigre friends from the US are very much with you |
|
I have over a dozen friends or acquaintances who've emigrated from the US in the past few years, mostly to Europe (3 in Germany, maybe your neighbors :) ). Many of them moved out in part due to a sense of impotent frustration at the hole the US is digging for itself in Iraq, and the spiraling debt and imperialistic militarism in general. Thankfully, most of them also still have voting privileges in the USA.
None of them is going to be returning to the US-- they've emigrated for good-- but they're still voting absentee in these elections when they can, and the results of this election at least, put a smile on their collective faces. I've learned to temper my enthusiasm and lower expectations (Rove has far too many aces up his sleeve), but at least my worst fears weren't realized on Tuesday night. We at least have some firmer ground to stand on to get at least a portion of a progressive agenda going.
