Rummy accepts no Resposibility--he blames it on Dumb Americans:

this is from Dowd editorial today:

An ashen Rummy was also condescending during his uncomfortable tableau with W. and Bob Gates in the Oval Office, implying that he was dumped because Americans just didn’t “comprehend” what was going on in Iraq. Actually, Rummy, we get it. You don’t get it.

3. Bush is the one who dumped Rummy, proving Bush doesn't comprehend either!
Good riddance to the worst Secretary of Defense ever.

4. They've all lived in their own echo chamber too long, enabled by the corporate
media. I'm always a bit surprised that they think absolutely everyone is as dumb as their RW base.

dumb 'merkins can go back to being 'confused'. his condescending tone REALLY rankles me . . . as i'm sure it did plenty of generals and heads of state. i was not confused about wanting him gone, that's for sure. he's the consummate 'ugly american'.

6. Let me see... Maybe Rummy's right...
What actually is going on in Iraq? Hmm...

1. Mission Accomplished was declared way prematurely for purposes a photo opportunity.
2. There was no real plan for countering the insurgency.
3. Our reasons for entry into Iraq were blatant bold-faced lies.
4. Our leadership grotesquely overestimated the welcome they would receive.
5. Our troops are being denied the equipment they need to survive in a war zone.
6. There is a "sectarian conflict" (some people call this a civil war) between the Kurds, Shiites, and Sunnis.
7. There is no real plan for exiting the country. We don't even have a to-do list.
8. American soldiers are being killed for a battle that never seems to progress.

In short, the former Secretary of Defense is a Cold Warrior trying to repeat the mistakes of Vietnam for a new generation of impressionable youth.

Clearly, I comprehend nothing.

7. Well I actually don't comprehend what he and Bush have been doing in Iraq. So he has
that part of it right. But somehow I don't think that is what he meant.

8. That's exactly the point I saw yesterday
If only we were all as s-m-r-t as Mr. Bush and Mr. Rumsfeld, we'd have returned every Republican candidate to office for two more years of unbridled brilliance. Sadly, this dunce corps of an electorate failed to recognize the intellect and the genius of the Bush administration, and now America is going to be handed over to the terrorists.

That's what Rumsfeld was saying yesterday: We the people are too stupid to govern ourselves. While Kerry was raked over the coals for 10 days because of fake outrage ginned up over a clumsy joke, Rumsfeld and Bush will suffer no such public approbation for calling the entire electorate stupid.
