CAN we accomplish anything in Congress? |
|
They way it works .... the House or Senate pass bills. The bill goes to a bicameral committee where the two versions get equalized, the bill goes back to both houses and gets passed. Then it goes to the pResident for signing .... or veto.
What will be the better strategy?
~~Pass bills that are 100% our views and dare the boy to veto ..... or ......
~~Pass bills that are more 'bipartisan' but less than our ideal and trumpet the accomplishment?
To me, it seems the first is the better option. We can overide the veto and get the law passed, or if we can't override we can call the pResident (and his entire party) an obstructionist in the 08 cycle.

1. I agree with you on choosing the first option. |

There is such a mess to clean up first, that I hope we can accomplish something.
I like Nancy Pelosi's plan for the first 100 hours (hours not days). She will be a great Speaker.

MAKE Bush veto laws that Americans want, like the minimum wage increase, stem cell research, fixing the AMT, rolling back tax cuts for the top 1%, eliminating tax credits for oil companies, letting Medicare bargain for drug prices, etc etc etc.
And be sure to point out to the American people that with a Democratic President, all these laws would pass.
