2. Here's my own translation: Pelosi, the "little red devil"

Portrait of Ms. Pelosi: "I am very proud of my origins" (A bit of a contrast to George Allen, eh? - ed.)
In 2004 she received 85% of the votes in the southern district of California (sic).
Nancy, the catholic who scares the US.
An "Italian" will chair the House.
She is the first woman to gain this position.

WASHINGTON - She is an Italian-American "very proud" of her origins: Nancy Pelosi, the first woman to chair the House of Representatives of the United States. Sixty-six years old, the past 19 on Capitol Hill, resident of San Francisco, Pelosi is considered "a lot more liberal than Hillary Clinton". In 2004 she received 85% of the vote in the south district of California, a "plebiscite" (i.e. no opposition). She is Catholic, has defended gay marriage, and fought against Washington lobbyists, the Iraq war, abuses committed in the was against terrorism and the failure to ratify the Kyoto Protocol.

Raised in the Little Italy of Baltimore, the youngest of seven children in a Catholic family of Ligurian* origin, Nancy Patricia d'Allessandro Pelosi has refined the political skills inherited from her closest relatives, her father and a brother who were both mayors of Baltimore. Since January, 2003 she guided the Democrats in the House, who have succeeded in voting as a block 90% of the time, a record for the riotous party of the Donkey.

She is considered the guiding hand of the electoral campaign for this "midterm" election, focused entirely on the offensive against pResident George W. Bush. Not by chance did the Republicans counterattack against her, warning that she would "raise taxes and destroy small businesses" and picture her as a little red devil in their election advertisements.

*that's the region of Italy around Genoa

La Repubblica is a left-of-center Italian paper that fought vigorously against Berlusconi.
