Al From claims Joe's win shows how inclusive and centrist Dems are. .

He does not even recognize that Joe did not even run as a Democrat. He is ignoring Lamont as if he never existed. Just how far can they stretch their justifications for what Joe did?

The big political test will come almost immediately, in the ability of Democrats to offer a compelling progressive agenda for the country, and in a 2008 presidential contest that will be about the future more than the past. If Democrats act as problem solvers, not polarizers, that future will be very bright.

That last point was underscored by Joe Lieberman's re-election victory in Connecticut, which helps solidify the Democratic Party's credentials as a broad, inclusive coalition able to compete for the vital center of American politics."

I believe Vilsack is president of the DLC now. He is announcing his presidential run. Perhaps he needs to read the Bullmoose bullshit that is linked on the front page of the site of the group he presides over...he and Hillary especially. Perhaps he should read it and consider just how much that is helping party unity.

Let's see how many ways we can refer to the middle...."vital center", "moral middle", "sensible center" it was last year.

Perhaps Vilsack should read some of the stuff his site links to every day.

I am proud, proud I tell you, to be a part of the "lefty loonies", the "chattering nutroots". I am proud to call myself one of those people.

I am proud we won, but I feel sick inside already. It was all about Iraq, wasn't it? And giving the corporations their tax breaks while they profited from the war in Iraq. And Joe's "victory" was about Iraq.

I don't mind being made fun of or laughed at anymore. They did it so much in 2003 that we got used to being called fringe...although most of us who opposed the Iraq invasion were really just "sensible center" people.

We were called "fringe" because we opposed the war

3. Christy Hardin Smith has interesting post up at FDL today....
on a similar topic.

http://www.firedoglake.com/2006/11/08/no/

"In private talks before the election, Emanuel and other top Democrats told their members they cannot allow the party's liberal wing to dominate the agenda next year. Democrats will hold 30 or 35 seats that went for Bush in the past, meaning that Democratic candidates such as Brad Ellsworth in rural Indiana are likely to face competitive races again in 2008. Still, their interests are likely to collide with those of veteran liberals such as Reps. Henry A. Waxman (Calif.) and John Conyers Jr., (Mich.), who will chair committees."

Being a centrist to me means standing up for those who are not on either extreme..those who are in the middle. But they interpet the middle as way to the right of the center actually..

6. If you don't like what the voters say, form your own party....
call it whatever you want, set your own agenda, and just run. Get support from wherever you can.

It works.

8. Let's face the facts about what this left/conservative...
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 04:21 PM by Q
...debate is all about: It's about the Right and their NeoDem buddies putting an end to 'entitlements' and privatizing everything they can get their hands on. They're also both anti-union.

The new democrat 'centrists' have joined with the Right in putting an end to the 'new deal' and everything that went with it. Kerry personified their politics when he said he wasn't a 'redistributionist' Democrat....signaling big business that he was ready and willing to participate in the recycled Trickle Down Economics.

Republicans were warned that the nutty neocons and their so-called christian right were taking over their party. King George II finally made it happen for the Neocons. Rank and file Democrats should take heed about the direction the 'new centrists' want to take the party. It just might be a place they don't want to go.

10. I have a lot of concern that you may be right.
I fear the "new deal" made be the very crux of the problem, maybe even before democratizing the middle east.
