Clarkies: Rep Rangel's ascension could be good news for General Clark... |
|
*When* (:)) Rep Charlie Rangel becomes Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, his increased power could be very good for his close ally Wesley Clark...eh?

3. Rangel was a co-chair of Clark's 2004 campaign |
|
And speaks very favorably of Clark (at least the last time I talked to him :)). He told me very pointedly that Clark would be in DC for a long long time.

7. Yeah, but I hear Emanuel will be backing Clinton |
|
I don't remember the source of that info, but I remember thinking there was a lot more to it than rumor.
At least Rangel has indicated he may prefer Clark.
But who knows. Maybe Clinton won't run. Maybe she'll get no traction and drop out early. Maybe any of a hundred things could happen to change Emanuel's mind about her. In which case it makes sense he'd back Clark instead. That would be a good thing.
Not sure how Emanuel's power in the House would make much difference tho. Maybe influence others to jump on board? I suppose the same could be said for Rangel, regardless of what committe he chairs. They both have a LOT of influence over their peers, just by virtue of who they are more than what they are.
One thing that occurs to me, tho... EVERY congresscritter wants a presidential candidate that can provide them the longest coattails. It's sort of hard to imagine any of 'em except maybe those in the very bluest districts wanting Clinton over Clark.

But I'm not sure how his chairmanship of Ways & Means will make any difference.

Seriously, Charlie is a GREAT friend to us all. I have great hopes he'll be on our team for 08. Heck, my dream ticket is Clark/Rangel. Wouldn't they kick ass?!
