Schwarzenegger, meeting with outgoing President Vicente Fox in Mexico City, hailed the Democratic takeover of Congress as healthy for democracy, saying "Washington was stuck."

1. He started moving this way after he got thumped in the referendums
He's been working with the Democrats consistently ever since.

2. He's two parts pure opportunist, one part fascist.
If he feels he is ABLE to do so, he will push his far right agenda. But after a most humiliating experience last year, he is constrained more so by fear of public opinion. He will likely pander to the left in order to remain in everyone's graces, or at least to neutralize opposition.

6. Well he is a California republican
A California republican is probably the equivalent of a red state Democrat.

8. Arnie believes he has been reborn to the belief that bi-partisan politics is the best politics.

He sees his 65% win in California as evidence that the people want Democrats and Republicans to work together in a pragmatic way to get things done.

I've been thinking about this a lot the past couple of days and what this means at the national level. To wit: in 2008 will Americans be inclined to put one party in charge of both the executive and legislative branch (perhaps not), and what does mean for Democrats politically and our choice for 08? It would seem that if Americans want the parties to work together and "balance each other out," then we should take heed of that in our election of our nominee. We need someone who Republicans will see as able to work with, if not always seeing eye to eye.

It's a challenge, but elections are always won by bringing people over to your side, not alienating them with high-pitched partisanship. We need a nominee in 08' that represents our values and would be best suited to achieve that goal.
