Aren't we all conservative - moderate- progressive Dems?
I don't want to hear another word from any of our guys categorizing and polarizing themselves within the party before we've even discussed one substantive thing. Bring on issues, dismiss the lobbyists, discuss the merits, vote for the common good and get on with it.

There, that's their job description.

3. Even better, we're on our way to becoming Americans again.
A nation of people more interested in the common good rather than focused on that which divides us. A nation where rights are protected and people allowed to live their lives with all the rights accorded them by our Constitution, whether it is the right to vote or to marry whomever they please.

4. I would label myself a socially conservative
I'm somewhat in lockstep with the Republican Party on these issues

-2nd admendment(for the right to bare arems and againist gun control or persucading gun company owners)

-Gay Marriage(Totally againist it, believe marriage is a man and women but i'm againist bannning it in the constitution)

Abortion(I am Pro-Choice but I abortions should be safe, really rare and legal, believe that the couple should take the right precautions necessary before beginning sexual intercourse so a abortion dosen't occur)

Beyond that i'm alittle liberal but mostly a middle of the road democrat, but a democrat at heart.

6. I believe "marriage" is a religious issue...
and churches should determine who and who they will not marry. The economic contract between two citizens that is CURRENTLY defined as "marriage" is of interest to the government, but there's no reason not to extend it to everyone, including gays.

Government shouldn't be in the business of enforcing religious doctrine of any kind.

10. I would kindly ask you to keep your nose out of
my gay marriage. It's absolutely none of your business. I'm not real comfortable with your butting in to a heterosexual's bed either.

12. imho, the three things you list are private personal matters
Why should your "right" to possess an object be more important than another person's "right" to live their life as they see fit?

Is that a blanket pass to gun manufacturers? Or should there still be lawsuits allowed if they make a crappy product? I am for some gun control. I don't really want violent offenders to get a hold of guns. I don't really want kids running around with guns either.

What in your life would change if two people of the same sex decided they wanted to have the same right to a legal commitment to each other that you can choose or not choose to exercise? Want to know something really funny? I never wanted to get married. I just never saw the reason for it. My boyfriend wanted to get married though and I kept putting him off. Finally, we went to dinner with a gay couple. They gave me an earful of all the benefits of marriage that I hadn't really considered - the right to have a say in medical treatment, the ability to pick-up my boyfriend's kids at school, inheritance rights, all kinds of stuff. They told me about everything I would be entitled and they knew all of it because they wanted the same things for themselves. I knew what they were talking about because one of my uncles was left destitute after his partner of almost 50 years had died. His partner's family kicked him out of his home and took most, if not all, of the possessions. My boyfriend and I have been married for over three years now.

What in your life would change, if an individual or a couple made a choice to end a pregnancy? And for what is worth, not every wanted pregnancy is viable and some abortions are necessary. A few years ago, I became pregnant and we wanted the child. Unfortunately for us, the embryo was not viable and I had to undergo an abortion. Two of my sisters-in-law had ectopic pregnancies and had to have abortions. So, I think we agree that safe legal abortions should be available. Personally, I don't think abortions should be a form of birth control but I don't think I've ever met a woman who used them as such. No matter how or why a person arrives at decision, abortion is a personal matter.

8. I'm STRICTLY Independent ...
... but recognize that Democrats are far more patriotic, open-minded, and rational than are today's Republicans. Democratic ideals are more pragmatic as anyone can readily ascertain.

I respect Harry S Truman though I do not agree with everything he stood for. He was highly quotable and my favorite line from him remains: IF YOU WANT TO LIVE LIKE A REPUBLICAN, VOTE DEMOCRAT.

The truth and rationality of that quote cannot be more truthful or more clear.

11. My whole point was that it does not matter WHAT you call yourself
You would just need to put your time, energy and money towards those issues that support your goals (which are my goals, too):toast:
