1. Steny Hoyer.

It'll probably be decided between the two of them.

4. I hope neither of them gets it
Murtha also has some skeletons in his closet, albeit not as pronounced as Hoyer. If I had to choose between the two of them, however, I would pick Murtha.

5. Yes. Steny Hoyer.
FWIW. Statement of fact, not necessarily support.

6. Thanks to you all. Of course. Duh.
The current minority leader.

All the excitement must have fried some more brain cells.

7. Steny Hoyer. Steny actually was ahead of Jack as "presumptive nominee"
having served as Whip under Nancy all this time. He was first in line until Jack put his oar in.

Jack was late to the game, sending out a letter a few months back expressing interest in the job, for which Hoyer had the inside track up to that point http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/09/AR2006060901203.html . But Jack is closer to Nancy than Steny is. If you recall, the leader job was a contest between Pelosi and Hoyer way back when, and Nancy won, with Steny falling back to take on the Whip duties.

A bit of BAWL-MORE background on the subject: http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/elections/bal-hoyerreplace1108,0,4708472.story?coll=bal-local-headlines

On a tangential, but funny in a wayback machine kind of way, note, check the WAPO quote from the smarmy GOP in the link above: A spokesman for House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., Ron Bonjean, said: "This is fantastic news for the Democrats' imaginary land of a make-believe majority. We hope it captures their attention for a while." Eat those words, pigfuckers!!!!

8. I'm not clear about the rules, but what we don't need is
someone to become leader just because they've grown the most moss on their back. We don't need a dumbass codger like Hasturd. We don't need people with skeletons rattling in their closets either. We need somebody smart and clean.
