Will the Democrats Become Part of the Problem?
By Paul Craig Roberts

If the Democrats are to make a real difference, their first task is to
repeal the Orwellian-named “Patriot Acts,” the torture legislation, the
detention without court evidence legislation, and the right-to-spy and
invade privacy without court warrant legislation. The White House
tyrant needs to be quickly told that one more “signing statement” and he
will be impeached, convicted, and turned over to the War Crimes Tribunal
at the Hague.

Sounds about right to me. If this isn't done by the Democratic Congress, then we can surely say they are enablers. And I didn't notice this as part of Nancy Pelosi's first 100 day strategy, unless I missed it.

1. Can u say more of the same?
They will toss a few crumbs, but I would bet quite a sum, they won't release one iota of any power the CONS grabbed.

2. If we are to ensure our ability to try to restore our country...
and "make a real difference", our first acts need to be to find a way to break-up the "mega-media" conglomerates and restore fairness in broadcasting. Without the fourth estate; we're more susceptible to the lies and mis-characterizations so typical of Republicans--and given that we face an impossible task (fixing six years of Republican blunders--gigantic, unfixable blunders) in an impossibly short time (maybe 18 months before we're consumed with trying to win a Presidency and keep our gains in Congress), we'd better get this one task done asap.

The Patriot Act must be abolished or fixed, but with Congressional oversight, it's excesses can be managed for the time being--what we have to do, urgently, is to concentrate on ensuring Republicans won't be in a position to simply put the Patriot Act back even if we get rid of it. That means achieving some things that will positively impact Americans, make some progress on fixing the Republican blunders and making the media both friendly to Democrats and the Truth and independent from the pressures and motivations of giant Corporations and their Republican tools.

Other electoral matters should be addressed, but may be such that they can wait. Though changes to rid elective office of the influence of money and wealthy manipulators ought to be pursued concurrently; restoration of honesty in government and strenghtening our Constitutional Deoocratic Republic should not wait.

4. Then The American People Won Nothing
If Democrats do not use the tools they have at their disposal to restore the Constitution, then it will be a police state, but only with a new watchdog. Do they think we will condone all of this just because they are Democrats?
