1. 54-46% overall can you say... "mandate"???
I see that we actually got 29% of the evangelicals. Other than that it was all majorities except for the white men (My peeps!) and the south and/or the born againers. We did get a majority of the Catholic vote again.

Oh and Republicans we only got 8% of "those people"

2. Uh, wow, just wow.
The Republican Party is in danger of marginalization on a scale unheard of since the 30's. Of course the Democratic Party could manage to screw up the next two years so badly that we go back to where things were in 2002, but if we can build at all on the political gains made across the board here the Republican strategy might just have made them the party of religiously afflicted southerners. Nice job Rove!

14. When Rethugs win...we don't hear them worrying about how
they might screw up...even though they do. Why is that? Is it the media's fault for repeatedly saying that or is it our own negative energy and lack of self confidence? I say we should all here on DU concentrate on positive thinking and expressing confidence in our party.
I guess it's true that if we repeat something long enough...we soon learn to believe it. How sad.

No offense to you...many Duer's say the same thing and often also think it. Let's work at changing that meme. It'll be hard but we can do it if we realize our error.

3. 25% of the GLBT? Geeze, we've got a long ways to go
and that was only the ones who identified as such, not counting all the closet cases.

4. Very interesting stats...
8% of Repubs did not vote for Repubs while 7% of Democrats did not vote for Democrats, but 59% of Independents voted for Democrats while 41% voted for Repubs.

The Democrats carried the West by 56% to 44%. The Repubs only carried the South.

In income brackets, Repubs only carried those that make over $100,000.

In religious groups, Democrats held their own except with the White, evangelicals, which they lost 71% to 29%.

Democrats had a higher percentage of the younger vote (18-29) than with any other age group.

5. two numbers that jump out
60/40 Dems in the 18-29 bracket. That's got to scare the pukes.

and 60/40 Independents... we got to work to keep these.

Great graphic... thanks for posting.

6. This is a good tool
Looking at this is shows the areas that we need to work on in 2008. I have noticed the South numbers are better but can we improve? I really don't understand the women vote. How can you be a women and vote Republican? Women need to understand the Republicans have never stood up for women. The Religious vote is a stupid one its more about abortion and gay rights than anything else. Republicans care nothing about the poor. I guess these people who voted for Republicans have never read the bible.

21. Clark is a Catholic
Edited on Fri Nov-10-06 04:27 PM by Jai4WKC08
Altho he and Gert started attending protestant services in his last few years in the military, and they both attend a Presbyterian church in Little Rock now, he says they have not changed official affiliation and both still consider themselves to be Catholics. I suspect they're none too happy with the hard line right-wing bishops have taken against pro-choice Democrats and the people who vote for them. :(

19. JEWS RULE!!!
And here I was worrying that some had fallen for the insidious "Democrats hate Israel" ads printed in every Jewish newspaper....

Shame about Abramoff...and Lieberman....but Lieberman is really a Baptist claiming to be an Orthodox Jew who then became a Hindu to stay in office.

...is that when you break it down by age group -- not race, religion, gender, geography, but just by age -- Democrats won across the board!
