Are Democrats going to use the blackmail card against Bushes veto pen? |
|
The last bit of power Bush has left is his veto pen. I can see the democrats going to Bush and saying "oh yeah you don't want to sign the minimum raise bill". How about some hearings on the pre-Iraq intelligence. You don't want to sign our health care plan, why don't we have some hearings on your energy plan. You don't want to enact all the recommendations made by the 911 commission. You don't want to broaden the types of stem cell research allowed with federal funds. Impeachment baby.

----Neocons certainly weren't bashful about playing "power politics." We hope this is how the game will be played now....

4. I dont think they will need to |

especially on issues as popular as raising the minimum wage. If Bush doesnt sign it, thats a HUGE boost to whomever we run for president in 2008. "A republican president wont raise the minimum wage, but I will!"

5. He won't veto, he will issue a signing statement |

That is something I wish the congress would legislate out of existence.

... I think we would get farther by passing popular legislation and holding investigations even with Bush vetoing the popular legislation than we would if we passed popular legislation and Bush signed it.
This is how I would score it:
Passing popular legislation: Dem +1 Bush vetos popular legislation: GOP -1 Investigating Bush admin: GOP -1
Dem net gain: 3
Passing popular legislation: Dem +1 Bush signs popular legislation: GOP +1
Dem net gain: 0

7. I've been posting this |

so often I was going to start cutting and pasting it. It's been so long since the Dems have had any leverage that we don't know how to use it. "Would you like to join us in such and such or would you like to go to jail. It's surprising how much cooperation you can get from that.
