is crap like Carville hates Dean, Dean should stay or go, Loserman deserves a chairmanship, no he should leave, no he should not leave, but we should punish him, and who was most responsible for the win? what should we do with Bush, impeach or don't impeach...

WTF is wrong with you people?

Can we work on the agenda? can we stay positive and focused on reversing the downward spiral we were in?

Can we debate things like should the min wage be $6.75 or $7.18?
Do we leave Iraq now or in six months?
Should we allocate 3% of our budget to innovative alternative energy research or 1% is enough?
Is it time to push for healthcare for all?
....

I've visited DU infrequently over the last year because of exactly what you describe in your post.

Why don't we all be friends?

5. To be fair,
DU is subject to a lot of attacks from disruptive posters because it has such a relaxed policy. That it would be subjected to a lot of divisive posting in the days after victory is no surprise to anyone.

We have to focus on our issues and message and exercise a little discipline by not responding to the trolls and disruptors. Just let the threads sink into oblivion.

Some sanity in an insane forum.

Can we at least swear the new congress in before we critique their job performance?

7. I totally agree, Nimrod. I am still in a world of euphoria. Let's just
do our best as Dems to change the world back to sanity. We have to start NOW investing in our future Democratic neo-con excisement together. We need to accept each other because we have suffered the alternative. So what if Dean and Carville do not agree. Dean is a big boy; he has proved he can take care of himself. No more negatives PLEASE. JUST JOYOUS support of all dems; let the good times roll.

8. Okay, here goes:
The minimum wage should be $10.00 hr., and tied to the rate of inflation.

We should leave Iraq now, but if we stay, we should pull back to bases in Kuwait for 6 months; then leave.

3% for alternative energy research and development.

Every American should have Universal Healthcare now, but I'll settle for January, 2007.

Well?

12. You've got my vote!
I'm really interested in how they plan to balance the budget and turn the economy around. Wouldn't it be great to see more job creation and a healthier economy?

14. Job creation and a healthier economy could start with that 3% investment
in research and development of alternative energy sources. (2 birds w/ 1 stone?)

But people have to make a living wage, and have the guarantee of their health as well, so investments in the minimum wage, and universal healthcare would be just that -- an investment.

How we can balance the budget and and grow the economy at the same time? Can you say no more war in Iraq, and no more tax cutes for the rich? Marry those two things with real penalties to corporations who take their business off-shore, just for the tax breaks, and import good jobs overseas for the profit, and you may have a balanced budget in a few years.

22. It would be interesting to know
How quickly we could bring down the deficit by making those changes in Iraq and cutting spending by, oh, say a third to begin with. Then let those tax cuts for oil companies, etc. go.

I have a feeling it wouldn't take too long to begin bringing the deficit back down.

There are also quite a few budget and fiscal policy changes we could make to begin paying for more health care.

And watch for Dems to go back and make changes to the Medicare Prescription Drug plan.

9. Carville
C'mon, it's not that hard. Look who Carville's married to! He's tryin' to be a divider. What the hell gives Carville so much weight and input? Dean ought to come out publically and make statement that Carville ought to shut the hell up! What position does he hold? Oh, I get it, cause enough disruption and Carville and take Dean's place?! Dean should tell Carville what Cheney told Leahy!

10. You mean we should ... GOVERN?

That was always the Republic problem. Ideologically opposed to gov't makes them a pretty poor choice to govern.

Didn't the Fed recently conclude that an increase in the minimum wage to $10.00 an hour would be appropriate? And that was under *'s appointed governors.

How about we ask the military when we should leave Iraq? They have said we should leave and probably have already laid plans for doing just that. So ask them in a very public way. Force * to publicly oppose the military brass if he wants to keep fighting "his" stupid fucking war.

No idea what percentage of our budget -- or the GDP/GNP; though I'd support allocating 100% of the GOP -- to allocate to energy research. I do favor a big push for bio-diesel immediately. The recent federally mandated 10% ethanol blend increased the cost of fuel. Conversely, here in the midwest a lot of refineries went to an 85% ethanol blend which DECREASED the overall cost of fuel. How could adding some cost more and adding a lot cost less? The raw material (ethanol vs petro) is cheaper, but the process (adding a new mix) is larger. At some point the former offsets the latter. So the problem wasn't in mandating an ethanol mix. The problem was mandating it too small.

There is also a startup infrastructure cost in making the switch that could be offset by gov't subsidies. Instead of cutting off subsidies to the energy companies, maybe we should just redirect them.

Health care would be the single greatest boon to American industry since World War II wiped out all of our competition for a few decades. Especially since all that competition is back and WITH universal health care to cut their costs.

20. I think we can count on it that Pelosi and other Dem leaders are

working on the agenda. Didn't you see the article from October in whish Pelosi outlined her plans for the House in the first 100 hours?

In the next few days, we Democratic loyalists need to dropkick Carville back to the bayou, make it clear Dean stays as DNC chair, and that the DLC is a small faction to which we are not beholden.

We'd be wise to communicate our wishes to the party leaders, too, just so they don't miss anything important. Obviously, everyone gives different priorities to the issues and we have to let them choose how they'll act on the issues but keeping in touch couldn't hurt.

28. Some of our Dems have received poor training...
...from the example of the corrupt GOPers. The temptation must be strong to cash in on power, and i can't really claim that our side of the duopoly is much more ethical. I think that if we contact our reps regularly, we can train them away from the lure of the lobbyists. It really comes down to their willingness to work for their pay.

If we make our demands with sufficient frequency and volume, I think we can shape a Congress that represents working Americans rather than corporate money. Don't let your reps get comfortable!
