Congressional Republicans find out where they stand with Bush. |
|
So, now it's out that Congressional Republicans pleaded with Bush to fire Rumsfeld as Sec. of Defense in order to salvage the party's control of the House and Senate, but Bush refused, praising Rumsfeld instead. Only after the Republicans took a bloodbath in Tuesday's elections did Bush release Rumsfeld as a means of damage control for his administration.
If I was a Republican Congressman, I would feel extremely betrayed by Bush.
Will there be retaliation?
Will those Republicans who survived the elections throw Bush under the bus when hearings on Iraq, Afghanistan, 9/11 and all of the other hot issues are held?
There may not be enough popcorn for this show, folks!

clung to him and they're only starting to get it NOW - that he's only in it for himself.
He's only EVER been in it for himself, folks. With this asshole, the world is divided into two sets of people: his friends and cronies, and "the help." Congressional republi-CONS are little better than the rest of us with the bushes - we're all merely "the help." A pity that it's only now dawning on them. He played THEM for chumps, too.
It was his arrogance that screwed them. All this crap you may hear about how rummy was already on his way out and they were gonna do this anyway - it's just crap. bush simply assumed he was gonna sail through this election, too, or that the fix was in to steal it for him, so he wouldn't have to make any changes. He'd be busy running all over the country and on every network and hate radio show, talking about the accountability moment he just had with the voters and how they proved they wanted him to stay the course. Only - reality got in the way this time. Reality, and a LOT of built-up bad karma.
Wonder what they're gonna do about it...

A month or so ago, someone posted a link to a column with someone opining that if the R's lost control of Congress the remaining ones would be out for Bush's blood. For sure, he's lost his stranglehold on them now. What'll he do if they don't support him? Not campaign for them in the future?
