More good news that shouldn't get lost in the celebration
Edited on Sat Nov-11-06 12:23 AM by Greatwildbeast
Jerry McNerney beat out that corrupt sphincter valve Richard Pombo to become a U.S. Representative from the 11th District in California.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_McNerney

Now unfortunately that other corrupt sphincter valve Jerry Lewis (GOP politician not actor) won re-election easily. However Lewis's district is so influenced by Corporate Welfare recipients I expect there was a "Democrats r Terrorists" bumper sticker on every car. That and free buffet daily for every GOP voter in the Lewis district.

1. I didn't overlook Pombo's defeat!
And neither did others of us who are rabid enviros, and therefore knew he was one of the worst of the worst. In fact, I sent him a ... ah... congratulatory message, you might call it, through his web site. :^)

2. IMHO
Don't worry about Lewis, he will have his problems soon, the corruption will catch up to him with an ethics committee that actually works.

10. One of the worst.
Certainly the most brazen. And from Northern California too. Amazes me that he stayed alive so long with much of his district relatively near (but NOT incluing) San Francisco and Oakland.

11. This is why Dems might want to appease outdoorsmen, sportsmen
These guy are rabid about their interests, whether hunting or dirtbikes. We can work with them easily by giving them some space and establishing sensible rules and no fees. Woods riders/hunters/fishers are often the first to see the degradation in the eco system.

We can reduce fees on rifles and hunting and fishing. Use volunteers to service forrest trails and track to constrain dirtbikes. Northern CA is a hotbed for this stuff and we can make huge progress there. These guys vote and have disposable income. We can use that, or we can fight it.

And I'm a gun control advocate and want pristine forests -at heart- but see the greater need to compromise and leverage sportsmen.

14. Gun control has always been a HUGE loser for the Dem's
And it has accomplished relatively nothing.

"Assault Weapons Ban"?

Basically it just means that all a psycho has do to bring a few more clips of ammo with him the next time he wants to go on a killing spree.

The environment has paid the heaviest price from the Gun Control Lobby which seems mostly to have existed just to help Republicans get elected.

13. It WAS the celebration for me
I went to the celebration party for McNerney volunteers last night. Jerry was there. What a down to earth, honest, decent man. He is a one eighty opposite of Pombo. Kind of off the subject and superficial, but why does Pombo look so young if he's served so many terms? Couldn't be clean living.:) Anyone know how old he is?

17. His youth helps explains his lack of moral compass.
Edited on Sun Nov-12-06 12:23 AM by Greatwildbeast
Certainly the majority of young people wouldn't be as evil and corrupt as slimeball Pombo.

However you give a guy like him THAT much authority at age 32 and it can set the stage for severe etchical abuses.

I've met younger people who are ruthless and willing to go to any length to hurt others for their own profit. It's starts to get easier the longer they stay entrenched in the easy money. Then they come to rely upon their ill gotten gains as a steady income. They view it as their personal divine entitlement if you will.

And since at that age (32) Pombo probably didn't know a heck of a lot about hardship and perseverance. So he was willing accept risks that would make the rest of us older people cringe.

Pombo is a likely candidate for a cocaine or gambling addiction too.

Ten years ago I met a ruthless young man running a local plumbing bsuiness. The guy had absolutely no qualms about telling any lie to a customer in order to get his business.

And twenty five years ago i met a very young female RNC fundraiser who had no problem at all bilking elderly people for tons of money through false promises.
