Goddamn New York Post! (not for the faint of heart)
One thing I found out today is--they can still get to me.

Walkingto a movie theater in Manhattan this evening, I decided to check out what those fine folks had to say about our big week. I dunno what I was expecting--something concillatory, thoughtful, soul-searching, contrite. An acknowledgment, like many of the Freepers and Rush himself gave, that the conservative movement in America had lost its way, and that Republicans were now finally paying the price.

Instead I found a cartoon of terrorists celebrating the outcome of the 2006 midterm elections in a cave. They sported turbans and beards, and brandished all manner of weaponry while staring at the television set, their faces set in grotesque expressions of glee.

I found Letters to the Editor stating words to the effect that the writers were now fully expecting--practically hoping--that another disaster would occur on American soil. It would serve the country right.

I found Bill O'Reilly's collumn with the headline blazing up at me: "Saddam's Revenge." It turns out that we, the people of this country, were all wrong. It turns out that every insurgent in Iraq, spurned by the ascendence of a representative from godless San Francisco to one of the highest posts in the land, will now attack our troops with renewed vigor and concentration. Because, as he says, they know that our country has given up the crusade against evil and has fled into the dark abyss of cowardice and self-loathing. Bill O'Reilly knows all this and is surprised the rest of the country doesn't wise up for its own good. Bill O'Reilly, noble leader that he is, will not take any responsibility when this "question your leaders in a time of war" thing, this "two-party system" thing, this whole "democracy" thing blows up in our poor little faces.

This isn't the least bit funny to me. It's one thing to see it printed in some loser-nobody's blog at home on a computer screen, but it's quite another to read it printed in a popular American daily newspaper printed in the very city that 9/11 occurred in--a crime comitted by brainwashed fundamentalists whose best trick was to turn their surviving victims into mirror images of themselves. Let us not forget that the job is not done, and that the Kool-Aid drinkers will continue to poison their own minds until their tiny brains explode....or until they somehow manage to be put into a position of power once more.

4. The problem is a lot of ... ahem
Z 1000 MORNING ZOO HONK HONK radio assholes see the NY Post as having the same kind of integrity as the UK Guardian.

Well, that's a little overstatement, but only so much. They get their orders from the publishers of such rags as the NY Post, the Boston Herald, and such and repeat it over and over again.

So, this monday, you'll hear HONK HONK all about the Osama LOVING and the fact that the Dems won, which of course completely ignores the fact that he isn't caught.

And oh look, gas prices are going up, and the same idiot radio hosts who complained about Clinton doing nothing about it, then turned around and said Bush couldn't do anything about them will immediately pin that on the Dem Congress.

It doesn't matter that the Dem Congress doesn't take power until 2007, it's the Dem's fault.

Oh, and expect a lot of focus on cumstains. It's how the media works. Scarborough is an anomaly.

3. The terrorist in the caves should have been labeled CIA Operatives
October 17, 2006,Will be remembered as the Enabling day of the 21st Century!
"The government will make use of these powers only insofar as they are essential for carrying out vitally necessary measures..."
~Adolf Hitler, March 23, 1933, before the German Parliament (Reichstag) as he urged them to pass his "Enabling Act"

5. That goes double for me!
Does anyone know the political cartoonist Chuck Asay? Right before the election, he ran a cartoon that had two panels. The first depicted Osama smiling, with a caption that read "why is this man smiling?" The second panel showed Osama holding a paper that sported headlines about how the GOP wasn't doing well in pre-election polls.

That kind of stuff makes my blood BROIL. I'm not normally a very violent person, but it makes me want to do something....rash.

I think the important thing is to make sure that the American people don't buy this bullshit. That way, this kind of divisive, hateful rhetoric can speak for itself. We can stand aside and say, "these people talk about Democrats politicizing national security, but look at this. They're so hungry for power that they're using this kind of unspeakably hateful rhetoric to regain power. Do you really want them at the helm of this country?"

If the American people begin to believe that stuff, it's all over.

7. He that idiot from Colorado Springs that draws like a bad Garfield copy?
And has no sense of humor or any depth of understanding about anything?

That Chuck Asay?

I think the implosion of the Republicans is going to be really, really ugly.

9. I think so
I have to say that he did write me a pretty friendly response when I E-mailed him about some of his columns. But yeah - his columns are usually pretty stupid. But not nearly as bad as that SOB Michael Ramirez.

14. I love how all the critters in the cartoon have babies except "Adam & Steve"
Never mind that it's supposed to be a depiction of the Garden of Eden, and "Adam & Steve" would have been created just one day after the rest of the creatures, so there's no possible way any of them (even the rabbits) could have had babies yet.

But then, who expected a Busheep propagandist to THINK??

15. Would Steve have given the apple to Adam?
Inquiring minds want to know!

Maybe he didn't and they are still in the Garden frolicking with God and the little bunnies.

6. Doesn't Bill O'Reilly owe the military an apology? After all, the exact same ones
Edited on Sat Nov-11-06 02:11 AM by qnr
(with certain exceptions due to death, transfer, EOE, etc.) are in there the day after the election as were there the day before. However, now our troops will be attacked with renewed vigor and concentration, because they (who are American citizens, and BO is accusing American citizens) are now self-loathing cowards, according to him.

10. O'Reilly is a traitorous blowhard,
...and anyone who listens to his tripe is as fucking delusional as he is.

I wonder: did Bill get 5 draft deferments like Dick(less) Cheney did, or perhaps desert his country during wartime as did his hero, the Man-Ape from Crawford?

Expect nothing better from the cowardly Repig "warhawks". If O'Reilly ever met a real terrorist in person, he'd shit his knickers and die of fear on the spot.

12. You expected different?
I wouldn't expect anything from the media.

I hope we all learned to forget the media. They are as useless as Mark Foley.

We need all alternative media every day.

Ignore them, they may go away.

16. How's this for a radical idea?
Stop getting mad on ideological grounds. Leave the mindless repugnance for mindless repubgnants. Save your revulsion for the truly revolting, and respond to the ridiculous with ridicule.

Treat these things, whether they are on TV or in the papers as if they are comedic skits. Larger than life lampoons worthy of "Team America" Try busting a gut in public and insert your own unsaid, but heard as a shout "NOT!!!!" into the article. We know what the lies are, and can expose them unimpeachably, if we can get a half-way unbiased first hearing.

So, instead of steaming at the ears, and automatically raising hackles (even in those inclined to agree), stream at the eyes with mirth. On your commute to work in the morning, seek out that article that gives you stress (that feeling of not being able to choke the living shit out of someone who desperately deserves it) and roar. Point out to your "fellow travelers" the morbidly dark irony of O'Lieley's words as he points out the many manifest flaws of neo-conservatism by hysterically praising them to the high heavens.

Good honest laughter puts virtually anyone into a generally receptive mood. And even if they ultimately disagree with you, they will still have at least heard your words and consciously processed them, rather than dismissing them out of hand. Like they did when you looked up from your paper and proceeded to tell them what idiots they were for daring to disagree with you.

Laugh and the world laughs with you. Decry and decry alone.
