Senate seats ("Class 2") expiring in 2008: 21R's, 12 D's.

I am sure Howard Dean is already looking at these seats.
Please would DU'ers from the states on the list (or those knowledgeable about the senators) post which seats they think would be competitive or easy wins (barring any sudden change in the next two years). I know its very early, but it might be fun to start thinking early on good candidates to go after the larger number of R's and to defend the D's.

1. Wish I could say Texas is conpetitive but we are not unless we
could get a Richards or Jordan type candidate. We are already talking about the work we need to do.

2. this is yet another reason for aggressive investigations and oversight....
Many of those republicans will be vulnerable if the mood of the country is that the republican party-- identified with the republican neocon administration-- is complicit in Bushco's crimes.

6. I don't have a lot of information, but have an idea that NJ (Lautenberg),
SD (Johnson), LA (Landreiu) and Pryor (AR) might be tough for us. I hope I am wrong on these.

On the R's, I see CO (Allard), ME (Collins), MN (Coleman), NM (Domenici), TN (Alexander), OR (Smith), NH (Sununu)

I don't have any candidates to put up, I'm probably just using gut feel about the mood of voters.

18. Suggestions for those races
CO - Mark Udall (already announced he's running against Allard)
ME - Hannah Pingree
MN - Becky Lourey
NM - Patricia Madrid (if Domenici retires, and Heather Wilson runs too)
TN - Rosalind Kurita
OR - Jim Hunt, Greg MacPherson, or Vicki Walker
NH - John Lynch (assuming he's willing to give up Gov)

4. Let's give Allard the boot!
Wayne Allard in Colorado should be an easy target.

Only Musgrave trumps him (oops, and Tancredo) as an embarrassment to this state.

He's one of the worst senators there are. Go after him!

5. It was clear before the election that 2008 was our best
shot at taking the Senate because of the number of Republicans that have to run. That we won this year is terrific, we can pick up more in 2008.

7. If Kerry retires, Rep. Marty Meehan does NOT deserve the seat
He's sitting on a huge warchest but wouldn't give any extra of it away to help our challengers when other congresspersons were.

8. Marty would run, as would Rep Stephen Lynch
If it came down to the two of them, who would you vote for?

(I like Martha Coakley. It's time to put a woman into Congress from this state.)

17. *wince* If I had the vote, which I don't, I wouldn't want either
http://www.dkosopedia.com/wiki/Stephen_Lynch

Coakley looks good, except that she was just elected attorney general. Would (primary) voters have a problem with her immediately moving on to the senate?

9. Kerry will retire over my dead body. Marty Meehan
is a jerk and I think the dems in Mass should find another Dem to chase him outa there.

10. The old fossil Domenici has announced he's retiring
at the end of this term. I hope the door does smack him in the ass on the way out, he deserves it.

I have no idea who will run for his seat, haven't heard a whisper, but I hope Wilson (R-COW) does a Harris and gets her bony butt shellacked.

He'd shellack Wilson. Sadly, I think that he's going to run (and lose) for president.

13. Who Says Dems Have No Plan
We are already running for 2008.

Maybe if we could actually do something it would help.

I know, radical idea. I must be a clone of Carville.

We are Democrats, we are going to spend two years running for 2008.

That is our plan America. Hope you like it.
