Pelosi Takes Hastert’s Other Office

Pelosi Takes Hastert’s Other Office

Thursday, Nov. 9; 4:40 pm

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) wasn’t “on the clock” very long in the first day of the biennial House office lottery before she snagged the personal office of the man whose other office she had just won on Tuesday — Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.).

Staffers for Pelosi indicated that the Speaker-to-be had picked room 235 in the Cannon House Office Building to be her office space on Thursday. That room, a 1,515 square-foot modular office just steps from the Independence Avenue and First Street entrance on the second floor of Cannon, had just been given up minutes before by Hastert.

The outgoing Speaker surrendered his Cannon office digs in exchange for room 2304 in the Rayburn House Office building. Also a modular office, 2304 Rayburn is a 1,209 square-foot office on the third floor of Rayburn facing Independence Avenue. It had been vacated earlier in the lottery by 11-term Rep. Bart Gordon (D-Tenn.).

3. This kind of BS irritates me
Moving offices costs money. Doing it for reasons other than necessity means it's wasteful of our tax money.

13. You too? Her old office is spectacular. In the capitol, 2nd floor...
With that amazing outer lounge area with groupings of meeting areas. All in sort of European style. But it was cramped, esp the outer office area where secretaries had their desks. So I understand if she wants more room, and the rewards that go with the office she earned....But those senate office buildings have so little character compared to the capitol offices.

14. Yes, it was cramped
we had to have our meeting ( about 15 people) in a basement meeting room.

11. You better "sweep" that office really well before settling in Nancy
It's probably bugged worse than the US embassy in Bejing, or the Chinese embasssy in Washington.
